• Officers responded to an address on Lewis Avenue in reference to a theft. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that someone had stolen her lawnmower from underneath her elevated house. When asked, the victim estimated the value to be in excess of $350. A report was filed, and the case was forwarded to investigations.

  • Officers responded to Jones Avenue in reference to a Hit and Run. During he course of the investigation, our team identified the victim as a package delivery driver. While speaking with officers, the victim stated that her van had been parked halfway on the shoulder of the road, when a pickup truck attempted to pass, striking the van’s mirror in the process. Upon inspection, officers noted that while there wasn’t any visible damage to the mirror, it seemed a bit loose. A report was filed, and the victim was instructed about how to obtain a copy.

  • Officers responded to a local motel in reference to a disorderly person. Once on scene, the officers found that a tow truck driver had been attempting to repossess a vehicle from the parking lot, when he was confronted by the car’s owners. According to the driver, the male suspect had brandished a knife, which he used to slash one of the tow truck’s tires and cut a tow strap. The driver also stated that the man swung the knife in his direction but failed to make contact. During this same time, a female suspect climbed into the tow truck and took the keys. When the driver attempted to take his keys back, the woman shoved him away before tossing the keys across the parking lot.

    As officers spoke with the male suspect, his female companion attempted to step between them, yelling that they were “breaking their oaths of office” and claiming that she was a “Federal Agent”. She was then instructed to walk away, which she briefly did, before approaching our team once again. After learning that she was being placed under arrest, the woman decided to physically resist ad fight back. She then continued to struggle until she was guided to the ground and threatened with a Taser. As both suspects were taken custody, the woman falsely identified herself as a “Federal Agent” several more times.

    The man was subsequently charged with Criminal Trespass and Aggravated Assault. Meanwhile, his female companion was booked under Simple Battery, Obstruction of Law Enforcement, Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer, and Entering an Auto.

    Damage to the tow truck was estimated to be in excess of $500.

    Officers responded to a restaurant on Highway 80 in reference to a noise complaint. While using a sound meter, our team took a reading from a nearby residential area and found the decibels to be within an acceptable range under Tybee Island City Ordinance.

  • Officers responded to 14th Street, beachside, in reference to an accident that occurred the night prior. Once on scene, they met with a representative of a local golf cart rental company. While speaking with our team, the employee stated that a customer had come into the shop and reported rolling a golf cart onto its side the previous evening. During the accident, the cart sustained damage to its windshield, roof, supports, and passenger side. The cost to repair was estimated to be in excess of $1800.

    Officers responded to a report of a heated argument on the beach. Once on scene, our team encountered a man who was intoxicated to the point of barely being able to stand. Based on his behavior, officers believed him to be a danger to himself, or the public, and decided to place him under arrest. During this time, the man falsely identified himself as a “Federal Officer” more than once. He was then charged with Public Drunkenness an Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer.

  • Officers responded to the area of 19th Street in reference to a report of several vehicles on the beach. Once on scene, our team encountered several people on a golf cart. While talking with the driver, they noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that there was an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from his breath as he spoke. They also noticed a woman holding an infant in the back seat, and an open beer can in the center console. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with No Motorized Vehicles on Beach, License Not on Person, Open Container, Child Safety Seat Violation, DUI (Less Safe) and Endangering a Child While DUI.

    Officers responded to Memorial Park in reference to a man urinating in public. Once on scene, they successfully located the suspect, and also noted that a children’s birthday party was taking place in the park. While talking with our team, a witness provided a picture of the suspect, showing the alleged peeing in progress.

    Seeing the witness speak with officers, the suspect said, “Now I know who did it”, which he followed up with statements suggesting that he planned to burn their house down. He was subsequently charged with Public Indecency, Public Drunkenness and Terroristic Threats.

    Officers responded to 17th and Strand in reference to a woman screaming, cussing, and throwing objects in the road. Once on scene, they found the woman clinging to the side of a vehicle and screaming at the people inside. They also noted that she appeared to be naked from the waist down. As one officer attempted to speak with her, she turned and swatted in his direction. Our team then moved to place her under arrest, at which time she began to actively resist and fight back, kicking one officer in the groin in the process. After placing the woman in handcuffs, the officers secured her in the back seat of a patrol car, where she repeatedly kicked the back windshield.

    During this time, witnesses came forward who reported watching the woman throw rocks and traffic cones at nearby vehicles. While checking the area, officers located vehicles with what appeared to be fresh damage and confirmed that the owners wished to pursue criminal charges. The woman was then booked into custody on the charges of Public Indecency, Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Trespass, Obstruction of Law Enforcement, Felony Obstruction, and Simple Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer. While at the jail, the woman stripped naked and shoved her clothes down the toilet, flooding her cell in the process. As officers attempted to move her to a dry location, she punched one of them in the chest. She was ultimately transferred to the Chatham County Detention Center.
