On Sunday, April 24th, officers responded to a local condominium building in reference to an attempted Burglary. During the course of the investigation, officers found that the front door of one of the condos had been damaged, as if someone had attempted to force entry into the room. While speaking with officers, the three women who were staying in the condo stated that the damage had occurred sometime between midnight and 3:00 AM while they were away. A report was filed and forwarded to our Criminal Investigations Division.

That same day, officers responded to the area of the beach near 15th street after a Code Enforcement Officer spotted people “fleeing the beach”. Shortly thereafter, we received a call about possible gunshots in that same area. After arriving on scene, our team spoke with people who had been in the area, including several women who reported that there had been “someone on the beach with a gun”. When asked for details, the women were unable to describe the person or definitively say whether or not shots had actually been fired. Other witnesses denied hearing gunshots. During the course of the investigation, officers checked the area for any physical evidence, to include shell casings, and none were found. To this date, no victims have come forward as having been injured by gunfire during the course of this incident.

On Thursday, April 28th, our officers were contacted by a woman who claimed that her gun had been stolen from inside of her parked vehicle on the Sunday before. Officers gathered all of the pertinent information for the weapon and it was entered into the National Crime Information Center as stolen.

That same Thursday, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Highway 80 and Lewis Avenue, when he spotted a vehicle weaving in and out of traffic aggressively while traveling at a high rate of speed. After stopping the vehicle, the officer smelled a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from within. When asked about the odor, the driver indicated that he had “just been having a good time on the beach”. During the course of the investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Too Fast for Conditions, Failure to Signal, Driving While License Suspended and DUI.

On Friday, April 29th, our officers responded to the 1600 block of Butler Avenue at the request of an officer from another agency. While speaking with our team, that officer stated that he had been approached by a Transgender individual who lifted their dress and exposed themselves to him. After locating the individual in question, our team noticed that they had slurred speech, glossy eyes and a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from their breath. In an effort to avoid placing them under arrest, our officers asked several questions about who they were with and where they were staying, which they were apparently unwilling or unable to answer. They were then placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct.

Later that same day, officers heard the sound of squealing tires in front of the Tybee Island Police Department and looked up to see a black in color car traveling at a high rate of speed. While subsequently checking the area, those officers found the vehicle abandoned in a nearby driveway. Upon closer inspection, they noticed that the car contained both a jar of marijuana and a gun. The car was then towed to the Tybee Island Police Department for further investigation.

On Saturday, April 30th, officers responded to Tybrisa Street in reference to a drunk man passed out on a bench. After making several attempts and finally waking the man, those officers noted that he had slurred speech, and a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from his breath. As officers spoke with the man, he became agitated and began to raise his voice in an aggressive and belligerent manner. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct.

That same morning, officers responded to the area of 3rd Street and the beach in reference to a concerned citizen having found what they believed to be a bag of Methamphetamine. During the course of the investigation that substance field tested positive for meth. It was subsequently bagged as found property and placed into an evidence locker for destruction.

Later that day, officers responded to the area of the beach near 15th Street in reference to people fleeing the area after possible gunshots. Upon their arrival, officers found that there was still a large crowd of people on the beach. During the course of the investigation, officers spoke with several witnesses, to include two law enforcement officers working security on the pier, all of whom denied hearing shots.
