• One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 45mph in a 30mph zone.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed there was an odor of marijuana wafting through her open window. After calling for backup, the officer asked both the driver and her male passenger to exit the vehicle. Once on the sidewalk, the passenger attempted to run away. During the course of the subsequent foot pursuit, officers informed the man that if he did not stop, he would be tased. After choosing to ignore the warning, he was indeed tased.

While being walked back to the scene of the traffic stop, the man continued to try to pull away from officers and screamed at the driver, telling her to leave. During a search of the suspect vehicle, officers found a bag of marijuana and two bags of pressed pills. When asked, neither the driver nor passenger claimed ownership of the drugs. As a result, they were both placed under arrest. The driver was charged with Speeding, Obstruction, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Meanwhile, the passenger was charged with Obstruction, Giving False Information to Law Enforcement, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Both were transported to the Chatham County Detention Center, where they were booked into custody.

While speaking with our team, the caller stated that she had seen a man doing pushups in the street outside of her house several hours prior. The woman had then forgotten about the incident, until the juveniles in her care complained that the man was still outside and was making them feel uncomfortable. According to the girls, they had been standing on an exterior balcony, when the man took his shirt off and began trying to get their attention. When they went back inside to get an adult, the man just stood at the foot of the driveway, staring up at them.

Officers then made contact with the suspect. During the course of their conversation, the man denied staring at the house or the juveniles inside. When asked why he was shirtless, he claimed that he was “doing some stretches after a long day on the beach”.
