Tybee Island Police Make Arrest in Labor Day Arson Case

September 8, 2022

(Tybee Island, GA) - Officers of the Tybee Island Police Department have arrested a man for intentionally setting fire to a local bar on Labor Day.

At 12:45 AM on Monday, September 5th, the Tybee Island Fire Department responded to “The Sand Bar”, located at 1512 Butler Avenue, after a fire was reported in the bathroom. After assessing the situation, Fire Department personnel requested that an Arson Investigator respond to the scene. During that preliminary investigation, the detective found probable cause to believe the fire was intentionally set.

Over the course of the following days, detectives were able to identify Jacob Parrott as the suspect, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest on the charge of Arson in the First Degree. On Thursday, September 8th, Parrott was successfully taken into custody by officers of the Tybee Island Police Department with assistance from the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team (CNT).

The Tybee Island Police Department would like to thank the members of the community, the Tybee Island Fire Department and the men and women at CNT for all of their help and support during this investigation.

Thank you.
