On Sunday, 08/01/2021, officers responded to the intersection of Butler Avenue and Tybrisa Street in reference to a motor vehicle striking a pedestrian. Upon their arrival, the officers learned that the pedestrian was a 12 year old boy who had been riding a bicycle at the time of the crash. At that time, Emergency Medical personnel arrived on scene and provided aid to the young man who was reportedly experiencing “minor pain”. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the driver of the vehicle that struck the boy did not have a license. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Driving While Unlicensed.
On Tuesday, 08/03/2021, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Butler Avenue and 2nd Street when he observed a vehicle fail to yield the right of way to pedestrians in a marked crosswalk. After stopping the vehicle, the officer learned that the driver did not have a license. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with a Crosswalk Violation and Driving While Unlicensed. During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the passenger had a valid license, and he was subsequently cited for Allowing an Unlicensed Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
On Wednesday, 08/04/2021, officers responded to the area of the 3rd Street beach crossover in reference to a vehicle stuck on the beach. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the driver had been operating the vehicle on the beach so that a passenger could make “twerking videos”. The driver was subsequently cited for Vehicle on the Beach under Tybee Island City Ordinance and the vehicle was towed from the sand.
On Friday, 08/06/2021, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Butler Avenue and 3rd Street when he observed a vehicle fail to yield the right of way to pedestrians in a marked crosswalk. After stopping the vehicle, the officer learned that the driver’s license was suspended. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with a Crosswalk Violation and Driving While License Suspended.
On Saturday, 08/07/2021, officers were on foot patrol in the area of Tybrisa when they observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the one way street. After stopping the vehicle, officers noted that the driver was sweating heavily, had slurred speech and an odor similar to that of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest the man had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way Street and Driving Under the Influence.
