• Officers responded to a condominium complex in reference to someone trespassing in the pool area, which is reserved for guests only. While speaking with our team, employees pointed out a man whom they claimed had previously been told not to return to the property. While the man left the area before officers could serve him with an official Criminal Trespass warning, he was found the following day and informed that he would be subject to arrest if he returned.

  • Officers responded to the City of Tybee Island's South Annex in reference to a possible stolen vehicle. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that she left her car in the 15th Street lot and walked to the Annex to renew her parking decal. When she returned, her vehicle was gone. During the course of the investigation, officers entered the vehicle into the GCIC computer system as stolen and provided the victim with a courtesy ride back to her residence.

    Later that night, one of our officers was on patrol when he spotted the missing vehicle parked around a corner and approximately two blocks away from the Annex. The victim was contacted, and one of her family members responded to the scene to retrieve the vehicle.

  • Officers responded to the Tybee Island Maritime Academy in reference to a possible theft. While speaking with our team, school staff stated they saw a woman take a student's bicycle from the rack and watched as she rode away on Miller Avenue.

    While checking the area, officers located the woman still in possession of the bike. When confronted about the theft, she stated that she "thought it was free". During the course of the conversation, one of the officers recognized the woman, and remembered that she had been banned from the island by court order following a previous arrest. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Criminal Trespass and Felony Theft by Taking.

  • Officers responded to a local convenience store in reference to a possible Shoplifting. While speaking with our team, employees stated that a woman had come in and grabbed a few necessities, like a bottle of cleaning spray and a pack of cigarettes, before leaving the store without paying. Based on a vehicle description provided by witnesses, officers were able to use our FLOCK license plate readers to positively identify a suspect. When asked if they'd like to press charges, however, the store decided not to pursue the incident any further. A report was filed, and no further action was taken at that time.

    Later that evening, officers responded to a local bar in reference to "a woman being held hostage in the bathroom". While speaking with our team, the victim stated that after using the restroom, she found that a man was holding the door shut and refusing to let her leave. As she continued to try to push her way out, the man reportedly yelled back at her, referring to her as a "bitch" and other profane names. Eventually the woman was able to exit the bathroom and believed that the man had taken the opportunity to make his escape.

    When officers asked if she felt her life had been danger, the woman replied, "yes".

    Officers then checked the inside of the bar, but did not find anyone that matched the suspect's description. A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

  • Officers responded to Tybee Island Water Sports in reference to damage to property. While speaking with our team, employees told them that a group had rented four jet skis, and that when they were returned, two of them had been damaged to the point of being "totaled". Employees also stated that the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) had been notified due to "the accident" having taken place on the waterway.

    A report was filed, and the case was deferred to DNR.

  • Officers responded to a local rehab facility in reference to a patient cutting a nurse. While speaking to our team, the nurse stated that she overheard a patient yelling and threatening his roommate. Upon entering the room, she found the man holding a pair of shears. As she attempted to take the scissors from his hand, the patient struck her with them, leaving a scratch mark on her upper torso. The nurse was treated on scene by Tybee Fire personnel, while the patient was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

    Officers responded to the Tybee Island Marina in reference to a disorderly subject. While speaking with our team, marina staff stated that a drunk and belligerent man had been harassing them while they were working. When another man tried to intervene on behalf of the employees, the suspect reportedly punched him before shoving him to the ground. After speaking to all parties involved, officers placed the suspect under arrest and charged him with Simple Battery.

    Officers responded to an address on Solomon Avenue in reference to a possible Burglary. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that he believed someone had broken into a storage area underneath his home and stolen a bottle of liquor. During the course of the investigation, officers noticed that the door to the storage area appeared to have been forced off of the frame.

    A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.
