Later that day, one of our officers spotted a vehicle parked and unoccupied on a dead-end street and noted that the registered owner had an active warrant for his arrest. While checking the area, officers found a man fishing nearby who matched the description of the wanted man. After speaking with the fisherman and confirming his identity, the officers informed him that he was wanted. As officers moved to place him in handcuffs, the man snatched away and balled his fists while assuming a fighting stance.

At that time, one officer drew his Taser, while two others took hold of the fighting fisherman and pulled his arms behind his back. As the man continued to resist, the officer with the Taser briefly deployed it in “drive stun” mode, causing the man to fall to his knees. Officers then successfully placed him under arrest and summoned emergency medical personnel to the scene to assess the man’s condition. Once this was complete, he was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center where he was booked into custody on his non-local warrant and Obstruction.

While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were red and glossy, and that there was an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from within the vehicle. The officer also spotted open containers of alcohol in the center cupholders. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way, Driving While License Suspended and DUI (Less Safe).

As officers attempted to secure the man in the rear of a patrol vehicle, he suddenly became violent, kicking and kneeing officers before biting one on the left shoulder. While being transported to the Chatham County Detention Center, the man spit on an officer through the prisoner divider, threatened to kill the cops and to….have sexual relations with “their mothers’ souls”. His violent antics would earn him additional charges of Simple Battery on a Law Enforcment Officer and Felony Obstruction.
