On Monday, August 8th, officers responded to a local hotel in reference to Theft of Services. While speaking with the manager our team learned that back in June, a woman booked a 17 day stay at the hotel, running up a bill in the amount of $8,603.55 in the process. Almost a month later, the hotel received a “chargeback” for that amount from the credit card company, indicating that the card was used fraudulently. During the course of the investigation officers learned that the name used to book the room was “Flower Priest”, which interestingly enough, was NOT the name of the actual card holder. The case was then turned over to our detectives and remains an active investigation at this time.

On Saturday, August 13th, officers responded to an address on Tybrisa Street after a homeowner woke up to find that a glass storm door and a window on his house had been shattered with a rock. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that a neighbor had woken up during the night to find a man hiding in his backyard. He then yelled at the man to get off of his property, prompting the stranger to run off into the darkness. That same neighbor later found a debit card lying in his yard, which he believes belongs to the suspect, and turned that card over to our officers. This case is also an active investigation. In the meantime, if you observe any suspicious activity, including strange men attempting to hide themselves in the shadows, please contact the Tybee Island Police Department at our non-emergency number (912)786-5600 or by dialing 911.

Also on Saturday, our officers responded to an address on McKenzie Avenue in reference to a man “brandishing a gun”. During the course of the investigation, our team learned that two men had been pulling a trailer behind their vehicle when they pulled into a driveway of a private residence in order to make a three-point-turn. As they began to back out, however, they realized that their trailer had damaged the yard. As they exited the vehicle to assess the damage, they were approached by the residents and an argument broke out. At one point, one of the men lifted his shirt to expose a holstered firearm on his waist, at which time the residents backed away. The suspect then left the scene. While speaking with our officers, a witness stated that he never saw or heard the man actually threaten anyone with the firearm. Given this, the case is considered a civil matter and no further action has been taken by our officers at this time.
