• One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 63 mph in a 30-mph zone. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he seemed to have trouble forming coherent sentences. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked if he had any alcohol that night, the man simply stared at the officer, refusing to answer. When asked if he would be willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the man continued to stare, once again offering no response. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI (Less Safe).

While conducting an inventory of the man’s vehicle, officers discovered several open liquor bottles, earning him an additional charge of Open Container.

  • Officers received a report of a possible Entering an Auto.

While speaking with our team, the victim stated that she stayed overnight at vacation rental on Lovell Avenue. The victim further stated that during the night, she believes someone stole her firearm from her unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the driveway. A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

  • A concerned citizen came to the police department to report finding a wallet and cellphone. Officers later learned that the items belonged to a resident at a local nursing home and delivered them to the owner. A report was filed, and no further action was taken at that time.

  • While at the Park at 7 Flags, one of our officers was approached by a woman about a small tin she found on the ground.

Upon inspection, the officer noted that the tin contained a small amount of cash, two credit cards and a gift card. The items were then taken to the Tybee Island Police Department, where they were deposited into the evidence room for safekeeping. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.
