• One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to maintain its lane on Butler Avenue. While talking with the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were “glossy” and that there was an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from her breath as she spoke. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container and DUI.

  • Officers responded to a local business in reference to counterfeit money. While speaking with our team, an employee described a woman who had purchased items using a fake $20 bill. The suspect had since left the scene, but the employee stated that she was a local who was known to frequent the business on a regular basis. Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate anyone matching the description provided. A report was filed, and the case was turned over to investigations.

    Later that morning, officers received an alert from a FLOCK license plate reader that showed a stolen vehicle on the back of a tow truck. After stopping the truck, officers spoke with the driver, who stated that he was working for AAA and had been asked to tow the vehicle on behalf of the rightful owner. Unfortunately, that owner was not on scene, and officers were unable to verify the driver’s story. As such, the driver was instructed to take the stolen vehicle to the Tybee Island Police Department where it could be secured until the owner came to retrieve it. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on Butler Avenue. While speaking with the 18-year-old driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot, and the lids were drooping. He also noticed that the young man’s reactions were delayed and that there was an odor of marijuana emitting from within the vehicle. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Driving While License Suspended and DUI.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having a cracked windshield. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer learned that the driver’s license was suspended and placed him under arrest. While conducting an inventory of the vehicle, officers discovered a glass smoking device and a substance that field-tested positive for Methamphetamine. Unfortunately for the driver, what began as a fractured windshield ended in a felony.

  • Around 2:30AM, one of our officers was conducting closed business checks, when he discovered an unlocked door. Our team then entered the business and conducted a methodical sweep of the premises to ensure no one was concealed within. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during this time.

    Officers responded to a residence on 6th Avenue in reference to a Burglary. While speaking with our team, the victims stated that the thief had taken two guns, jewelry and other personal items.

    During the course of the investigation, officers utilized witness statements and camera footage from multiple sources to pinpoint a “Person of Interest” in the case. Further detective work led to a positive identification of the suspect, who was later arrested in Florida. Additional charges are pending.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for a seatbelt violation. During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that the driver had an active warrant through another jurisdiction. He was then placed under arrest, and transferred to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for his charges.
