On Monday, December 26th, one of our officers responded to the area of Miller Avenue in reference to a report of a woman lying in the roadway. When the officer asked the woman why she was lying in the roadway, she extended the middle finger on both of her hands in a gesture commonly referred to as “flipping the bird”. During the course of their conversation, the officer noticed that the woman had a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from her body and that her speech was heavily slurred when she spoke. Despite her insistence that she lived, “right there”, she was unable to provide the officer with an actual address. She was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct.
Also on Monday, officers of the Tybee Island Police Department responded to a local condominium building in reference to a report of an irate, armed man walking into one of the units. While speaking with officers, the victim stated that she had been staying in a condo belonging to her ex-husband’s family following their recent divorce. On that night, she was in the condo with the child of a friend, when her ex-husband walked through the front door holding an expandable baton. The victim further stated that as her ex entered the condo, he was screaming and yelling and swung the baton at her several times. The child immediately ran into another room and locked the door, while the victim reached for her cell phone to call 911. According to the victim, it was at that time that her ex-husband ran out of condo and into the night.
While checking the area, officers located the man nearby and found him in possession of the expandable baton. A subsequent search of his vehicle also revealed several badges from two different Sheriff’s Departments in Georgia. While speaking with officers, the man claimed to be a deputy and demanded that they contact his Sheriff. During the course of the investigation, officers contacted each Sheriff’s Department that he possessed a badge from, and both denied that he worked for their agencies.
The suspect was subsequently charged with Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault (Family Violence Act), Cruelty to Children in the 3rd Degree and Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer.

On Wednesday, December 28th, officers received a “Be on the Lookout” for a man with an active warrant for his arrest through Treutlen County. Later that same day, one of our officers spotted the man walking down the street and subsequently placed him under arrest. He was then transported to the Tybee Island Police Department where he was later transferred into the custody of an officer from Treutlen.
