• On of our officers stopped a vehicle on highway 80 for failing to signal while changing lanes. During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that the driver’s license was suspended. He was then placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

  • Officers responded to a residence on 15th Street in reference to a report of a car crashing into a house. While speaking with our team, the driver of the vehicle stated that he had been leaving the residence to go to the post office, when he accidentally drove into the house. A report was filed and no further action was taken during this time.

  • Officers responded to a local rehab facility in reference to one patient throwing a vase at another, striking her in the arm. While speaking with officers, the victim showed them a mark that was left on her arm by the vase and expressed a desire to pursue charges. The suspect was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center, where she was booked into custody for Battery.

  • One of our officers was parked on the shoulder of the road monitoring traffic, when he watched a vehicle back into a light pole in a nearby parking lot. Further investigation revealed minimal damage to the vehicle and pole. Unfortunately for the driver, however, he had an active warrant through an outside jurisdiction. He was then placed under arrest, and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for his non-local warrant.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle around 2:00 AM after spotting it traveling down Butler Avenue without headlights. While speaking with the driver, the officer was able to smell an odor of marijuana emitting from within the vehicle. A subsequent search based on probable cause revealed marijuana cigarettes and an unmarked glass vile containing several different types of pills. Preliminary identification suggested that several of the pills were a generic form of Xanax. When asked, the driver denied having a prescription for the medication and claimed that the pills had been given to her by a friend. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Drugs not in the Original Container and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

  • Officers responded to a residence on Van Horne in reference to a fight between two men. During the course of the altercation, one of the men allegedly fired a handgun into the air, before stabbing the other man in the shoulder with a folding knife. The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with Aggravated Assault and discharging a Firearm near a Highway/Street.

    Officers responded to a local motel in reference to a woman who was refusing to leave a room and check-out. Once on scene, officers spotted the woman standing on a motel room balcony, yelling racial slurs and attempting to spit on motel employees who were talking to her from the parking lot below. Officers then went to the room and knocked on the door, instructing the woman to come out and speak with them. When she refused, motel staff gave the officers permission to force entry into the room. At that time, one of our officers kicked the door in, splitting it in half in the process. Once inside the room, officers placed the woman under arrest. She was then transported to the Chatham County Detention Center, where she was booked into custody on the charges of Criminal Trespass, Disorderly Conduct and Obstruction.
