• One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and weaving within its lane. While talking with the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were “glossy”, the lids were “drooping” and he had a very relaxed posture. There was also the distinct odor of marijuana wafting through the open window. When asked, the man originally stated that he “didn’t smoke”, before eventually changing his answer to having smoked a few hours prior. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of drugs. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI (Less Safe).

  • A man contacted the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to possible Terroristic Threats. while speaking with officers, the man claimed that two old acquaintances had recently accused him of theft. Since that time, they had been contacting him through social media stating that they “were going to beat his ass and put him in the hospital.” A report was filed, and the caller was provided with information for follow-up.

    Officers responded to the area of Lewis Avenue in reference to a vehicle having rolled over in the ice and snow. Once on scene, they found a man with his leg trapped beneath a side-by-side vehicle. Working together, our team was able to lift the side-by-side enough for the driver to pull his leg from underneath. The man refused all medical treatment, and police and firefighters were able to push his vehicle home.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked how much he had to drink the man replied that he “had a couple”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI (Less Safe).

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot, and that there was a strong odor of marijuana emitting from his open window When asked how much marijuana was in the vehicle, the man replied, “None. I just smoked it all”. When asked how much he smoked, the man said, “Quite a bit”. During the course of the investigation, K9 tosca was brought to the scene and alerted on the vehicle. During a subsequent search based on probable cause, officers discovered approximately 83 grams of marijuana, 37 suspected THC vape cartridges, 1000mg of THC syrup, 2 electric THC vape pens and a syringe. The man was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Reckless Driving, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Related Objects, and DUI (Less Safe).

While talking with the driver, officers noticed that her eyes were bloodshot and that she slurred her words as she spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through her window, and an open container visible in the center console.

    When asked, the woman stated that she had just come from a bar in Savannah and was on her way to pick up a family member on Tybee. When asked if she would be willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the woman refused. she was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, Failure to Dim Headlights, Reckless Driving, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).
