On Thursday, July 14th, officers responded to a residence in the area of 9th Street in reference to a fight in progress. After arriving on scene, officers found two men with visible injuries. While speaking with our officers, one man claimed that he fell and hit his head on the bathroom sink, while the other stated that they had been “wrestling” and playing “WWF” in the backyard of the residence. According to witnesses, however, the fight was the result of an argument between the two men and was not simply innocent “horseplay”. During the course of the investigation, officers were able to identify the man who claimed to have injured himself in the bathroom as the one who started the fight, and placed him under arrest for Disorderly Conduct.
In the early morning hours of Friday, July 15th, our team responded to a report of a Hit and Run in the area of Highway 80 and Campbell Avenue. According to witnesses, the suspect vehicle had run the red light, before knocking the bumper off of a parked vehicle and fleeing the scene. While checking the area, officers located the suspect vehicle and noted that it had two flat tires and damage down the passenger side. While speaking with the driver, officers noticed that he was unsteady on his feet and had an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from his person. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. After he was placed under arrest, the man began to physically resist being placed in the back of a patrol car, injuring one officer with a kick to the face. He was then charged with Hit and Run, DUI and Felony Obstruction. The injured officer was treated at an area hospital and released.
On Saturday, July 16th, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Highway 80 when he used his RADAR device to check a vehicle’s speed at 55 MPH in the 35 MPH zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer smelled what he believed to be a mixture of marijuana and alcoholic drinks emitting from within. While speaking with the driver, he noticed that she had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and droopy eyelids. He also spotted what appeared to be a plastic cup containing a mixed drink in the center console. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. She was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Open Container and DUI.
