WEEKLY RECAP
(07/11/2021 - 07/17/2021)
At approximately 1:00 AM on Sunday, 07/11/2021, our officers responded to the North Beach parking lot in reference to an attempted Robbery. While speaking with officers, the complainant stated that they were sitting on the beach when they observed a subject with a flashlight walk past them. As the complainant got up to leave, they noticed that the subject with the flashlight was now following behind them. At the time, the subject reportedly told the complainant, “don’t run, just give me your wallet”. Instead of complying with the subject’s demands, the complainant called the police and walked to the parking lot. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate anyone who might have been involved.
Later that same date, an officer was on patrol in the area of Van Horne and North Campbell when he observed a vehicle with a cracked windshield. After stopping the car, the officer learned that the driver had an active warrant from another jurisdiction for their arrest. The driver was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center.
On Monday, 07/12/2021, our team responded to The Rock House in reference to a disorderly subject. Upon their arrival, officers found employees of The Rock House pinning the suspect to the ground outside the establishment. During this time officers noted that there was an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the suspect and he appeared to be visibly intoxicated. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the suspect had been inside of the establishment earlier that same day and left without paying his tab. After he returned to the restaurant sometime later, employees confronted him about his failure to pay. At that time, the man became aggressive towards The Rock House staff and reportedly began to “destroy the kitchen area”. At some point staff members were able to get the upper hand and moved the man outside the restaurant where they held him until police arrived. When asked, restaurant staff declined to pursue charges. At that time the suspect was placed under arrest and charged by officers with Public Drunkenness and Disorderly Conduct.
On Tuesday, 07/13/2021, officers responded to the area of Butler and Tybrisa in reference to a report of a suspicious man offering candy to women and children. While checking the area, officers located a man that matched the description provided by the original complainant. While speaking with officers, the man insisted that he had not offered candy to children and only gave Swedish Fish to an older woman because he could not eat them all. During the course of the investigation officers did not find any evidence of wrongdoing and the man was allowed to leave the scene.
