• While on patrol, one of our officers checked the license plate of a nearby vehicle through the GCIC computer system and learned that the registered owner had a warrant for their arrest. After stopping the vehicle, the officer confirmed that the driver was the woman that was wanted. She was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for her warrant.

  • Officers responded to the Department of Public Works (DPW) for a report of damaged property. While speaking with our team, the complainant stated that he had parked his truck and walked away. Upon his return approximately 15 minutes later, he found that the passenger side window had been busted. A report was filed and officers cleared the scene.

    One of our officers was monitoring traffic along Highway 80, when he spotted a Sports Utility Vehicle with a defective brake light. After stopping the vehicle, the officer learned that the driver’s license was suspended. He was then placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

  • While on patrol, one of our officers conducted a check of the license plate of a nearby vehicle through the GCIC computer system and learned that the owner’s license was suspended. As the officer pulled the car over, he watched the driver and front seat passenger switch seats. As such, the officer approached the passenger side of the vehicle to make contact with the ORIGINAL driver. When asked why he switched seats with his passenger, the driver indicated that he was “just trying to help her out” because she was pregnant and feeling il. When asked if his license was suspended, the man admitted that it was. During the course of the conversation, the officer was able to smell the odor of Marijuana emitting from within the vehicle, When confronted about this, the man claimed that he didn’t drink or smoke weed, a statement which was contradicted by the odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink which was emitting from his breath. When asked if he would be willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the driver refused. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Driving While License Suspended , DUI (Less Safe) and Endangering a Child While DUI. The officer then had all of the passengers, including 4 children, exit the vehicle so that he could conduct a search based on the odor of marijuana. During this time, officers discovered several open containers of alcohol, marijuana and a plastic bag containing a white powder that field tested positive for Cocaine. A second plastic bag with white powdery residue was found inside of a purse belonging to the adult passenger. These discoveries led to the additional charges of Open Container, Possession of Drug Related Objects and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine). The adult female passenger was also placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine). All 4 children were transported to the Tybee Island Police Department and left in the care of “Operation Starlight” volunteers until such time as they could be turned over to an adult relative.

  • While on patrol, in the area of Highway 80, one of our officers spotted a vehicle failing to maintain its lane. After stopping the vehicle, the officer was able to smell an odor of marijuana emitting from within. During this same time, he also learned that the driver’s license was suspended. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of drugs. A search of the vehicle would reveal open containers of alcohol, a “spice grinder” and a marijuana cigarette. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Driving While License Suspended, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe). While conducting a search of his person incident to arrest, officers located a cut section of a plastic straw and a bag of white powder which field tested positive for Cocaine. These items were then seized as evidence, resulting in anadditional charge of Possession of a Drug Related Object,

    That afternoon, officers responded to the 19th Street parking lot after a man allegedly brandished a firearm during a parking dispute. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that he and the suspect had become involved in a shouting match over a parking spot. During the argument, the suspect was said to have retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and pulled the slide back to load a round into the chamber, before asking “Now what!?.” During the course of the investigation, officers located the loaded weapon in the suspect vehicle, but the victim declined to pursue the matter any further. As such, a report was filed and bothj parties were sent of their seperate ways.

    While on patrol, one of our officers spotted a vehicle as it failed to yield the right-of-way to pedestriand in a marked crosswalk. After stopping the vehicle, the officer learned that the driver’s license was suspended. She was then placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

  • While on patrol, one of our officers checked a vehicle’s speed at 50mph in a 35mph zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer smelled an odor similar to a mix of marijuana and alcoholic drinks emitting from within. The officer also noticed that the driver’s eyes appeared “glassy” and that they seemed to have trouble keeping them open. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. They were then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI.

    Later that same morning, one of our officers was on patrol when he noticed that the driver of a nearby vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt. After conducting a traffic stop, the officer learned that the driver had active warrants through another jurisdiction. He was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for his warrants.
