• One of our officers responded to the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to a possible theft. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that she purchased a parking pass and placed it on her windshield a week prior. When she walked out to her car that morning, however, she noticed that the parking pass was missing.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken at that time.

  • Officers received a report in reference to a possible theft. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that someone had stolen two electric bicycles from underneath the stairs of his residence on 14th street. The victim further stated that he was following up with his neighbors to determine if video footage was available. The victim was then provided with an email address to send any pictures or video footage they came across.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken at that time.

  • Officers responded to a local hotel in reference to a possible incident of Battery. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that she had sat her phone and shirt down on the beach. Shortly thereafter, she watched a man pick up her phone and begin to walk away. When the victim confronted the man, his female companion shoved and screamed at her. When asked, the woman claimed that she was simply trying to defend her husband due to his mental health condition.

    After speaking with all parties and an independent witness, officers placed the man's wife under arrest for Simple Battery.

    At approximately 9:00PM, officers responded to the beach at 11th Street in reference to a report of a dead body floating near shore.

    Upon arrival, our team found the victim lying on his back in the surf, with waves crashing over his face and body. Taking quick, decisive action, officers pulled the man from the water, during which time they realized he was alive. The three officers then worked together to assess the man's condition and keep him awake and alert until medical help could arrive. The victim was then transported to an area hospital for further treatment.

    The actions of these officers are a testament to the compassion and commitment of the men and women who make up Team TIPD.

    One of our officers stopped a golf cart for weaving within its lane and not having a functional amber light. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked, the man admitted to having "from one to a few beers" that evening. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the cart while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Golf Cart Violations and DUI (Less Safe).

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to signal while changing lanes. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from within the vehicle. When asked, the man admitted to having "a few drinks" approximately 30 minutes prior.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Failure to Signal, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

    While on patrol, one of our officers spotted a group of four men fist fighting each other on the sidewalk. As the officer approached, two of the men attempted to run away. After apprehending one of the fleeing suspects, officers learned that he had an active warrant through another agency. After determining that no one wanted to pursue charges against each other over the fight, our team placed the wanted man under arrest and transported him to the Chatham County Detention Center.
