On Monday, June 20, officers responded to a local condominium building after employees of a garbage collection company reported finding a dead body inside of a dumpster. Upon their arrival, officers found a man lying unresponsive among the trash. When they checked for a pulse, however, they noticed that the man’s eyes moved. After finally waking, the man became aggressive, yelling at our officers to “get out of his house” before taking a swing at one of them. As the officer stepped back, the man struck the officer’s cap. At that time, officers removed him from the dumpster and placed him under arrest for Public Drunkenness and Simple Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.
On Tuesday, June 21st, one of our officers responded to the city’s South Annex building in reference to a report of a disorderly person. During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that city staff had spotted a woman hitting the side of the Annex building with a hammer. A Code Enforcement employee also told the officer that the woman had threatened to “beat his ass”. While checking the area, the officer found the woman on Tybrisa Street, beating the sidewalk with a hammer. As he watched, the officer noticed that the woman seemed extremely tense and agitated. At one point, the woman laid the hammer down in nearby beach cart, which the officer then pushed out of her reach in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. After speaking with the woman, the officer placed her under arrest for Disorderly Conduct.
On Wednesday, June 22nd, officers responded to a local bar in reference to a woman who was harassing customers and refusing to leave. While attempting to speak with the woman, officers noticed that her eyes were “glassy” and her speech was slurred to the point of being nearly incoherent. When asked where she was staying, or if there was someone who could come pick her up, the woman told officers to “shut up” and instructed them to arrest her. At that point she was placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct.
On Thursday, June 23rd, officers responded to a local residence in reference to a stranger sleeping on the back porch. While speaking with the man, officers noticed that he smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage, and asked if there was someone he could call to come pick him up. While the man claimed that there was, he simply looked at his phone and made no effort to actually place a call. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct.
