One of our officers responded to the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to a possible theft.
While speaking with our team, the victim stated that after losing his debit card on Tybee, he received a fraud alert from his bank. Upon further investigation, he realized that the thieves had spent approximately $730 from his account. A report was filed, and the victim was provided with information for follow-up.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were red, and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked, the man admitted to having one mixed drink almost 12 hours prior.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Driving with Expired License, and DUI (.08 or more).

One of our officers witnessed two juveniles jumping off of the Back River Fishing Pier.
As the officer approached to speak with the pair, they ran away, leaving a cell phone, car keys, and other personal items behind. Using those keys, the officer was able to identify which vehicle belonged to the pair and performed a check of the license plate to obtain emergency contact information. Armed with that information, the officer was able to make contact with the parents of the juveniles and advise them of the situation. At or around that same time, the fleeing juveniles were located by other officers and brought back to the scene.
One was subsequently released to a family member, while the other was released with his vehicle at the request of his parents.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding.
While talking to the teenaged driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were red and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic beverage wafting through his open window.
When asked to exit the vehicle, the teen initially refused and instead reached in between his legs to grab an unseen object. The officer then once again instructed the teen to exit the vehicle and show his hands. As the teen finally stepped out, he slipped the unseen object into a pocket of his pants. After being confronted, he eventually admitted that the item was a vape.
When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the teen admitted that there was a bottle in the backseat of the car but denied drinking. During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that he had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
At or around this same time, a second officer had spotted the open container in the backseat of the car and conducted a search of the vehicle. During the course of that search, the officer located six small bags containing a white powder that field tested positive for Cocaine. In the end, the teen was placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, Open Container, Possession of Tobacco by a Minor, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, and DUI (Under 21).

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, Open Container, and DUI (Under 21).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for a “Move Over” violation.
While speaking with the driver, the officer learned that his license was suspended. He was then placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

Just before 2:00AM, officers responded to the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion in reference to a report of shots fired.
While speaking with officers, the victim stated that he had been on the pier when he was attacked by two other men. Fearing for his life, he drew his firearm and pointed it at the ground. The men then began to struggle with the victim over possession of the weapon, causing it to fire a shot. He then escaped his assailants and ran to find the police.
Several witnesses in the area provided accounts which seemed to corroborate the victim’s story. They also mentioned that one suspect ran away, while the other was still on scene.
While speaking with our team, that suspect indicated that the victim tried to fight him because he was talking to “a random girl”. During the course of the altercation the victim allegedly hit him, so he “put him on the ground”. The suspect further claimed that as he was walking away, he heard the shot and believed that the victim fired the gun into the air.
After speaking with all parties, officers placed the suspect under arrest and charged him with Public Drunkenness, Disorderly Conduct, Simple Battery, and Affray.

Officers responded to the area of Tybrisa Street in reference to assisting Code Enforcement personnel with a kitten locked in a vehicle.
Upon the officer’s arrival on scene, the kitten had already been removed from the vehicle. Upon inspection, the officer noticed that the animal was panting heavily and visibly wet.
While speaking with the officer, the owner explained that her child had wanted to bring the kitten with them to the beach, and that she agreed. While she claimed that they had not been away from the vehicle for long, her parking receipt was time stamped approximately an hour prior.
The officer then issued the woman a subpoena to appear in court on the charge of animal cruelty. The kitten was returned to the owners, and they were allowed to leave the scene. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers was flagged down about a drunk and disorderly patron who was causing problems in a bar.
While speaking with our teammate, the management asked that the man be permanently banned from the establishment. The man was then provided with a notice of Criminal Trespass and instructed not to return. A report was filed, and no further action was taken at that time.

Officers responded to the area of Strand Avenue in reference to a 911 hangup.
During the course of the investigation, our team spoke with a man that called 911 to complain about a citation he received the day before. During the course of the calls, he referred to one of our dispatchers as “stupid” and a “stupid b_____”. He then proceeded to call 911 a total of three times with no actual emergency to report. As a result, he was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Conduct During a 911 Call.
