On Monday, June 27th, officers responded to the area of Butler and 15th Street in reference to a motor vehicle crash. While officers were still on the way, dispatch received information that one of the vehicles involved was a motorcycle and the driver was attempting to leave the scene. After their arrival, officers spoke with witnesses who stated that the motorcycle had failed to stop for a stop sign while entering Butler Avenue, which resulted in it being struck by a passing vehicle. While speaking with the motorcyclist, officers noticed that there was a smell similar to that of an alcoholic drink on his breath. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. After being placed under arrest, the man became combative and at one point attempted to kick one of our officers in the chest. He was subsequently charged with Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Driving While License Suspended, Obstruction of Law Enforcement (Misdemeanor), Obstruction of Law Enforcement (Felony) and Driving Under the Influence.
