Just after 8AM on Sunday, June 5th, one of our officers was monitoring traffic along Butler Avenue when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 55 MPH in the 30 MPH zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noted that the driver’s eyes appeared watery, and that there was an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink that became stronger when the driver spoke. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI.

Later that same morning, an officer was monitoring traffic along Butler Avenue when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 47 MPH in the 30 MPH zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer learned that the driver’s license was suspended. She was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and Driving While License Suspended.

On Thursday, June 9th, one of our officers responded to a local motel in reference to a guest who failed to check out at the appointed time. While speaking with our team, the motel staff also stated that the guest’s method of payment had been declined. At that time, officers responded to the room in question and knocked on the door. After receiving no response, the officers entered the room and found it to be empty but in total disarray. At the request of motel staff, our detectives distributed a picture of the guest to all of our officers and took out a warrant for Theft of Services.

Also on Thursday, one of our officers was monitoring traffic on Butler Avenue when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 62 MPH in the 30 MPH zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer spotted an open container of alcohol within. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI.

On Friday, June 10th, officers responded to the area of Fisherman’s Walk in reference to a report of people using drugs underneath the Back River Fishing Pier. During the course of the investigation, officers realized that one of the suspects was the same man who overstayed his welcome at a local motel the day prior. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Theft of Services.

On Saturday, June 11th, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Strand Avenue when he was flagged down by citizens who were concerned about several dogs locked in cages in the back of a pickup truck. Upon taking a closer look, the officer noticed that the dogs appeared to be overheated and he made the decision to free them from their cages. At that time, bystanders retrieved water and assisted the officer in cooling the animals down. During the course of the investigation, the owner of the dogs returned to the scene and was cited for 4 counts of Animal Cruelty. The dogs were expected to recover.
