• Officers responded to a local gas station in reference to a woman who had previously been banned from the store. After confirming that the woman had received official notice of the ban, officers placed her under arrest. During this time, they discovered that she was in possession of a small bag of white powder, which field tested positive for Methamphetamine. She was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center, where she was booked into custody for Criminal Trespass and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine).

    Later that evening, one of our officers was on patrol when he noticed a pickup truck parked in a city lot. Closer inspection revealed that the truck had blankets covering the windows, as if someone were sleeping inside. With Sleeping in Public Areas being a violation of city ordinance, the officer ran the vehicle’s tag and learned that the registered owner had a warrant for their arrest. After confirming that the man inside the truck was indeed wanted, the officer placed him under arrest. A check of his pockets revealed a black box containing a crystal-like substance which field tested positive for Fentanyl and Methamphetamine. The man was then charged with Sleeping in Public Areas, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) and Non-Local Warrant.

  • One of our officers was on patrol in the area of Highway 80, when he spotted a vehicle failing to maintain its lane. After stopping the vehicle, the officer conducted a check of the license plate, which revealed that the vehicle had an expired registration, no insurance and that the registered owner had both, a suspended license and a warrant for his arrest. While speaking with the driver, the officer was able to smell an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from within the vehicle. When asked, the man admitted to having “three shots” a couple of hours before. During the course of the investigation, the officer placed the man under arrest for Failure to Maintain Lane, No Insurance and Driving While License Suspended. While conducting an inventory of the vehicle prior to it being towed from the scene, officers discovered a bag of white powder which later field tested positive for Cocaine. The man was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center with an additional charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine).

  • Officers responded to a report of a stolen wallet. While speaking with out team, the victim stated that they had driven to the beach earlier that afternoon, and accidentally left their wallet on the dashboard of their golf cart when they walked away. Upon their return a short time later, the wallet was gone.

    While no one is to blame but the thieves responsible, you can help us keep your property safe by remembering to remove all valuables when you exit your vehicle, or hide them out of sight!

  • An officer was on patrol in the area of Highway 80, when he spotted a vehicle with a headlight out. After stopping the car, the officer smelled a very strong odor of marijuana emitting from within. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed felony amounts of marijuana in a backpack and a handgun under the 17 year old passenger’s seat. The 17 year old was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Marijuana (Felony), Possession of a Firearm by a Minor and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.

    That same evening, officers responded to a local restaurant in reference to a report of suspicious subjects. While speaking with our team, the complainant stated that he witnessed three men following and sexually harassing several underage girls. The complainant further stated that he believed the men were under the influence of drugs and was worried that they had predatory intentions. Officers checked the area but did not locate anyone matching the suspects’ descriptions. Even so, residents and guests are reminded to remain aware of their surroundings, no matter where they are.   • One of our officers was on patrol in the area of Butler Avenue when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 44 mph in the 30 mph zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver appeared to be reaching into the floorboard. After explaining the reason for the stop, the officer noticed that there was a strong “fruity” smell emitting from within the vehicle and that the driver appeared very nervous. When asked if there was anything illegal in the car, the driver insisted that there was not and gave the officer permission to check. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a bag of white powder, which field tested positive for Cocaine, and a blue pill, which appeared to be Alprazolam. During the course of the investigation, the driver was placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Driving While License Suspended, Open Container, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Alprazolam) and DUI (Less Safe).

    That sane evening, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Butler Avenue when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 59 mph in the 30 mph zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver slurred his words as he spoke and that his eyes were red and watery. The officer also noticed a smell similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from the man’s breath. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The driver was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI.
