• One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling too fast for conditions and failing to move into a clear left lane while passing another officer on a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through her open window. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman indicated “one drink”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that she had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Too Fast for Conditions, Move Over Violation, and DUI (.08 or more).

    One of our officers was monitoring traffic when he spotted a vehicle with a defective tag light. As he continued to watch, one of the vehicle’s occupants threw a lit cigarette out of the window. At that time, the officer proceeded after the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that he was visibly shaking and appeared incredibly nervous. During the course of the investigation, K9 Tosca performed a “free air sniff” and gave a positive alert to the vehicle. While conducting a subsequent search based on probable cause, officers found several bags of marijuana, a jar of a white powdery substance believed to be Cocaine, and a 9mm handgun. After determining ownership of the items, officers placed one of the vehicle’s passengers under arrest and charged him with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.

    Officers responded to the Back River Fishing Pier in reference to a fight. During the course of the investigation, our team learned that two groups of teenaged girls had been involved in an altercation, when one of the girls had a seizure. That girl was seen by emergency medical personnel and declined further treatment. All of the girls were then advised that they could either be placed under arrest or agree that the fight was over and go their separate ways. They wisely decided to disperse.

  • Officers responded to the area of Tybrisa and Strand in reference to damage to property. While speaking with our team, one woman stated that while getting out of her vehicle, she accidentally hit the vehicle that was parked next to her with her door. As she attempted to apologize, a woman got out of the damaged vehicle and retaliated by intentionally striking her car. This resulted in the first woman hitting the car next to her again, intentionally this time. Eventually somebody contacted the police, the situation was mediated, and both parties went their separate ways.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and there was an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. There were also several empty shot glasses scattered throughout the vehicle, and an open beer in the cup holder. When asked for his driver’s license, the man provided his debit card instead. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man indicated that he had “a beer or two” earlier in the day. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way Street, Open Container, and DUI (.08 grams or more).

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having a defective tag light. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man replied that he had “a couple of shots” about an hour before. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Tag Light Requirements and DUI (.08 grams or more).

    Officers responded to a local restaurant in reference to a possible Burglary. While speaking with our team, an employee stated that he found the door to a storeroom broken early that morning but did believe anything was missing at that time. A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

    Officers responded to a local nursing home in reference to a fight between patients. During the investigation, our team learned that the altercation began when one man told another that he “looked like a crackhead”. When the insulted man stepped up to defend his honor, the first man allegedly struck him in the head with a cane. Neither party wished to pursue charges. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 46 mph in a 30mph zone. While talking to the driver, the officer was able to smell an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked if he had been drinking that day, the man replied, “lightly”. When asked for his driver’s license, the man provided a Georgia “ID card only”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Open Container, Driving While License Suspended, and DUI (Less Safe).

    One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also a handgun lying on the floorboard, and several AR style magazines in the door pocket. As a result, the officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle in an attempt to ensure both of their safety.

    Once out of the car, the man was extremely unsteady on his feet and braced himself on the officer’s vehicle in an attempt to hold himself up. When asked if he was willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the man replied, “I know I’m f——- up”, before eventually settling on “no”. As the officer moved to place the man under arrest he suddenly tensed up and attempted to pull away. As the pair began to struggle, the man kicked the officer several times, before being pulled down to the ground. Once there, the officer drew his Taser and activated the “Warning alert”, telling the man that he could either stop fighting or be Tasered. The man wisely decided to surrender. As other officers arrived on scene, the man was taken into custody and charged with Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Open Container, Driving While License Suspended, Felony Obstruction, and DUI (Less Safe). The officer was treated for injuries at an area hospital and released.

    Officers responded to the 17th Street parking lot in reference to a disorderly person. While speaking with officers, the suspect stated that he had been minding his own business, walking down the street, when a woman suddenly pulled a Taser on him. The man stated that he then began yelling at the woman in an attempt to keep her away.

    While speaking with the woman in question, officers were told that she had been minding her own business, taking her personal belongings out of her car, when a man passed by and suddenly started yelling and cursing at her. Both parties were separated and sent on their individual ways.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were glossy and that she slurred her words as she spoke. There was also a cup in the center console that appeared to have wine residue in it. When asked how much she had to drink that evening, the woman replied, “None”. When asked if she would be willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, she stated that she “didn’t want to do anything”. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, and DUI (Less Safe).

There was also a blue stamp on her right hand, which the officer recognized as coming from a popular bar in downtown Savannah. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman replied, “two drinks”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane and DUI (Less Safe).
