One of our officers was monitoring traffic when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 46 mph in a 30-mph zone. He then activated his emergency lights and siren and proceeded after the vehicle. The suspect drove for approximately 16 more blocks before finally pulling to a stop.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her sweater and bathing suit bottoms were inside out. He also noticed that her eyes were red and puffy as if she had been crying. After the officer explained the reason for the stop, the woman replied that she was on her way from a friend’s house and that her boyfriend had just broken up with her. During the course of the conversation, the officer noted that she slurred her words as she spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through her open window.
At one point, she was asked to exit the vehicle and join a back-up officer on the nearby sidewalk. During this time, the back-up officer asked the woman if she was willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, to which she replied, “No”, citing the fact that she “would fail it”. She was then placed under arrest for DUI. As officers attempted to secure her in the rear of a patrol vehicle, she alternated attempting to escape, and allowing herself to go “dead weight”, in an effort to make her arrest as difficult as possible. Once placed in the rear of the car, she began to violently kick the doors and scream incoherently at the top of her lungs.
While conducting an inventory of the woman’s car, officers found a total of 17 open containers of alcohol, and two vape pens which tested positive for THC. She was then charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, Open Container, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and DUI (Less Safe).

While on patrol, one of our officers checked a vehicle’s speed at 76 mph in a 35mph zone. As the officer activated his emergency lights, the suspect vehicle made an abrupt turn into a nearby parking lot. The vehicle then sped through the lot before re-entering the highway, almost colliding with another vehicle in the process. The suspect then continued driving for several more feet, before finally pulling to a stop.
As the officer communicated his location to dispatch, the driver of the other vehicle leaned out his window with both hands extended in an apparent attempt to show that he was unarmed. When confronted about his erratic driving, the suspect replied that he “was in a rush because he needed to use the bathroom”. When asked for his driver’s license, the man replied that he didn’t have one and provided a “Georgia Identification Card Only” instead. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, Reckless Driving, and No Driver’s License.
