In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 27th, one of our officers was on patrol along Highway 80, when he spotted a vehicle failing to maintain it’s lane by crossing over both the double-yellow and white dotted divider lines. After stopping the vehicle, the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from within. The officer then asked the female driver to exit, at which point he noticed that she was visibly unsteady on her feet and swayed from left to right. During the course of the investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver was operating the motor vehicle while under a combination of substances, to include an open bottle of Crown Royal in the center console. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container and DUI.
Later that same day, one of our officers responded to the parking lot of a local restaurant in reference to an accident involving an obviously drunk driver. Upon his arrival, the officer learned that a man had struck several vehicles in the lot, including a golf cart carrying a 2 year old child passenger. Bystanders had stepped forward and taken the man’s car keys to ensure he stayed on scene to await the arrival of police. While speaking with our officer, the man admitted that he had “probably five beers”. During the course of the investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, including the fact that he had a beer in his pocket. The man was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with DUI. The child was not injured due to having been properly secured in a child safety seat at the time of the accident.
On Tuesday, March 29th, our team responded to a local nursing home in reference to a possible assault. Upon arrival, officers learned that one of the residents believed another man had urinated in his bed. The resident then attacked the other man, leaving him lying on the floor with injuries to his face and body. When asked, the resident admitted to the attack. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Battery. Out of concern for his physical health, the resident was booked into custody and released back into the care of the nursing home.
On Thursday, March 31st, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Butler Avenue, when he spotted a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic. Using his RADAR device, the officer was able to check the vehicle’s speed at 54 mph in the 30 mph zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer was able to smell a odor similar to that of an alcoholic beverage emitting from within. During the course of the investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, including open “mini bottles” inside of the car. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Open Container and DUI.
On Saturday, April 2nd, one of our officers was flagged down by a bystander at a local motel. While speaking with the officer, the bystander pointed out a nearby car and stated that it had just struck another man. Officers then spoke with the female driver, who stated that she had an argument with her boyfriend and had driven to the parking lot of the motel to “cool down”. The woman denied striking anyone with the vehicle. During the course of the conversation, officers were able to smell a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from the woman’s breath. While investigating further, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with DUI. While speaking with offices, the alleged victim denied having been struck by the vehicle.
