On Sunday, March 6th, our officers responded to a local bar in reference to a report of a stolen vehicle. While speaking with officers, the victim stated that during the course of an argument, his girlfriend had jumped into his vehicle and driven away without permission. A short time later, officers found the vehicle damaged and abandoned in the area of 14th Street. After the victim was reunited with his vehicle, it was determined that the damage was so extensive that it could not be driven from the scene. As such, he contacted a tow truck to have it removed.
In the early morning hours of Friday, March 11th, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Butler Avenue when he spotted a vehicle crossing over the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic. During the course of the subsequent traffic stop, the officer found evidence to suggest that the driver had been operating the motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane and Driving Under the Influence.
That same date, another officer was on patrol in the area of Butler Avenue when he used his RADAR device to check a vehicle’s speed at 58mph in the 30mph zone. At that time, the officer conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the officer, the driver indicated that she had been speeding because she “wasn’t paying attention”. During this same time, the officer noted that there was an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from within the vehicle that seemed to grow stronger each time the driver spoke. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and Driving Under the Influence.
On Saturday, March 12th, officers responded to a report of an assault. While speaking with our officers, the victim stated that she and some friends had been at a local restaurant when she decided to get a drink from the bar. The victim further stated that as she approached, the female bartender grabbed her by the hair, drug her down to the ground and began hitting her in the back of the head. After the incident, the manager of the bar reportedly approached the victim and apologized, stating that it “shouldn’t have happened” and offering to get her any drink she wanted. Instead, the victim left the scene and contacted the police. During the course of a follow-up investigation, the bartender told our detectives that the bar had been extremely crowded that evening. The bartender further stated that during the course of the incident, she heard a female voice yelling at her in a “rude” manner. As she turned around to confront the female, she spotted the victim walking towards her and assumed that the victim was the woman who yelled. The bartender admitted to grabbing the victim by the hair, but denied ever hitting her. At that time, the bartender was placed under arrest and charged with Simple Battery.
That same night, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Butler and Tybrisa, when he witnessed one man charge aggressively towards another outside of a local bar. As the officer ran to the scene, he noticed a large crowd of bystanders was already gathering and that the two men were actively fighting on the ground. As the officer attempted to pull the first man off of the second, he continued in his attempts to fight. At that time the officer deployed his Taser, striking the first man in the back and effectively ending the struggle. During the course of the subsequent investigation, witnesses told officers that the second man had been removed from the bar for attempting to instigate a fight with the first man earlier in the evening. At that time, both subjects were charged with Affray.
