• While on patrol, one of our officers found a suspicious vehicle sitting in the lot of a city park after hours. Shortly after the occupants spotted the officer, the vehicle began to drive away. A check of the vehicle’s license plate revealed that the registered owner’s license was suspended. After stopping the vehicle, the office confirmed that the owner and driver were one and he same. During the course of the investigation, the officer was able to smell the odor of marijuana emitting from within the truck. A subsequent search based on probable cause revealed a spice grinder and a THC vape pen. The driver was then placed under arrest and charged with Driving on a Suspended License and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for an expired registration. During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that the driver’s license was also suspended. She was then placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

    Shortly after 8:00 AM, our agency was contacted by the Thunderbolt Police Department in reference to a vehicle that had been stolen from inside their jurisdiction. A check of our FLOCK license plate readers revealed that the vehicle in question had been on Tybee since around 4:15AM. While checking the area, officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with or team, the driver initially claimed that he was “using the vehicle for work” and later stated he was “just driving it around”. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the man had a suspended license, and was also in possession of a stolen firearm. At that time, he was placed under arrest and charged with Driving While License Suspended, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Theft by Receiving (Auto) and Theft by Receiving (Firearm).

  • Officers responded to a local condominium complex in reference to a vehicle striking both, a metal pole and a parked car, before fleeing the scene.

    While checking the area, officers located a car that matched the description of the suspect vehicle. When asked, the driver admitted to hitting the pole, but claimed that she didn’t remember striking another car. During the course of their conversation, an officer noticed that the driver’s eyes were “glossy”, and that she slurred her words as she spoke. A subsequent investigation would reveal additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Duty Upon Striking Fixed Object, Duty Upon Striking Unattended Vehicle, Open Container, No Driver’s License and DUI (Less Safe).

    One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to maintain its lane. While talking with the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from within the vehicle, and an open container visible in the center console.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, and DUI (Less Safe).

  • During the “Beach Bum” parade, officers responded to a private parking lot in reference to a reckless driver who was reported to have almost struck several pedestrians. As officers approached the scene on foot, they observed a vehicle sitting in the middle of the lot, and a woman standing in the open driver’s door. Upon spotting the officers, the woman turned and ran down Butler Avenue, with several children following behind her. As officers gave chase, she turned and looked at them, while continuing to run. After catching up to the woman, officers placed her under arrest. During this time, they noticed that her eyes were glossy, and that there was an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from her breath and body. After being placed in the back seat of a police car, the woman turned and spit on an officer that was speaking to her She was subsequently charged with Reckless Driving, Open Container, Driving While License Suspended, Obstruction, Cruely to Children in the 2nd Degree, Simple Battery in a Law Enforcement Officer, Endgering a Child While DUI and DUI (Less Safe).

  • Officers responded to the area of the beach at 14th Street, in reference to a woman who was naked from the waist down. As they approached the beach, officers encountered a man walking through the parking lot, followed by a woman in a bikini top and cargo shorts. After bypassing the couple, officers spoke with witnesses, who stated that the suspect had just left. They then stated that the woman had been walking around, naked from the waist down, until she was confronted by a bystander. In response, her male companion had taken off his cargo shorts and used them to cover the bottom half of his better half before they both left the beach. According to the witnesses, both appeared to be under the influence, and they were concerned that they might try to drive away.

    While checking the area, officers located the woman they encountered earlier, and noted that she matched the description of the suspect, due to the fact that she was once again naked from the waist down. As officers approached, the man once again tried to dress the woman in his shorts, but it was too little, too late. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Public Indecency.

    One of our officers stopped a golf cart for driving the wrong way on a one-way street. While talking with the driver, officers noticed that his eyes were bloodshot, and that there was an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink that became stronger as he spoke. When asked if he was willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the man refused. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way, Seatbelt Violation and DUI.

  • Officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 59 mph in a 35-mph zone. When asked for his license, the driver attempted to hand officers his debit card. During this time, our officers also noticed that the man’s eyes were red and “glossy”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. They also learned that he was convicted felon,ad in possesion of a handgun. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, DUI (Less Safe), and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
