On Sunday, May 22nd, officers responded to a report of a golf cart almost striking another vehicle. While in the area, one of our officers spotted the cart as it ran a stop sign. After stopping the cart, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes were red and “glossy”, his speech was slurred and there was a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink coming from his breath. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the cart while under the influence of alcohol. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign and DUI.
That same day, officers responded to the area of Solomon Avenue in reference to an accident in which a vehicle rolled over into the marsh. According to the caller, the driver of the vehicle had asked bystanders not to contact the police. After their arrival on scene, officers noticed that the driver of the vehicle was unsteady on his feet, had “watery” eyes, and an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink coming from his breath when he spoke. While talking with officers, the man stated that he recently installed a new engine in his vehicle and decided to “pound” three beers before taking it for a test drive. A test drive that ended with the vehicle resting on it’s side in the marsh. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Too Fast for Conditions, Failure to Maintain Lane and DUI.
On Friday, May 27th, officers responded to a local bar in reference to a man attempting to use a credit card which had been flagged for fraudulent activity. Though the man had left the bar prior to officers arriving on scene, he was later found stumbling around in the same general area. While speaking with officers, the man claimed he did not have identification on him and refused to provide his name without first speaking with an attorney. After placing the man under arrest for Public Drunkenness and Obstruction, officers found that he was in possession of a credit card and identification that did not belong to him. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers learned that the man was not supposed to be in possession of the documents and did not have permission to use the card. As a result, he received an additional charge of Identity Theft.
That same date, one of our officers was handling a call for service on Tybrisa when he spotted a golf cart driving in the wrong direction on the one way street. A few moments later, he was approached by a bystander who stated that the golf cart had just struck a vehicle and left the scene. While checking the area, our team was able to locate the golf cart and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, the officers noted that he had a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink coming from his body. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the had been operating the cart while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way, Hit and Run and DUI.
On Saturday, May 28th, officers responded to a local bar in reference to a possible fight in progress. Upon their arrival on scene, those officers found several people pinning a man to the ground. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the man had caused problems inside of the bar, at which time a bouncer attempted to call the police while escorting him out. As he did so, the man slapped the phone out of the bouncer’s hand and punched him in the side of the head. While speak with our officers, the man admitted to hitting the bouncer but claimed that he did so in self defense. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Simple Battery.
