On Sunday, May 29th, one of our officers responded to the 800 block of Butler Avenue in reference to a dog left inside of an unattended vehicle. Upon taking a closer look, the officer noticed that the animal did not appear to have any water. A subsequent check of the the temperature inside of the vehicle registered at 105°F. During the course of the investigation, the owner returned to the vehicle and was cited accordingly.
That same day, officers responded to the area of the large curve at Highway 80 and Butler Avenue, in reference to a 6 year old who had been found wandering alone. While speaking with officers, the child was able to provide thorough descriptions of their family members. With that information in hand, our team coordinated with Tybee Lifeguards to locate the child’s group, and they were all reunited safely.
On Wednesday, June 1st, officers responded to the campground in reference to a report of a fight at the pool. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that an argument had broken out between two swimmers when one jumped into the pool too closely to the other. When campground staff attempted to intervene, one of the swimmers threw two of the staff members to the ground before running back to their campsite. While campground staff originally asked that the combative swimmer and his group be removed from the property, they agreed to allow them to stay until the following morning due to the fact that the driver had been drinking. A report was filed and no further action was taken during this time.
Also on Wednesday, one of our officers was monitoring traffic near Highway 80 and McKenzie when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 55 mph in the 35 mph zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer learned that not only was the driver’s license suspended, but the vehicle’s registration was also suspended and it did not have valid insurance. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest on the charges of Speeding, Driving While License Suspended, Suspended Registration and No Insurance.
On Thursday, June 2nd, our officers responded to the campground in reference to the staff requesting that a woman be banned from the property. After their arrival on scene, officers served the woman with an official notice of the ban and informed her that if she returned she would be placed under arrest for Criminal Trespass. In response, the woman demanded to speak with the manager. After being informed that wouldn’t be possible, she got into her car and left the area. A short time later, an officer was flagged down by campground staff who informed her that the woman had returned and was now inside of the campground’s front office. Upon entering the building, our officer reminded the woman that she had been banned from the property and that she needed to leave. When the woman refused, she was placed under arrest and charged with Criminal Trespass.
