• One of our officers was on patrol in the area of Highway 80 near Lullwater, when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 54 mph in the 35 mph zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver was stuttering and slurring his words, and that he refused to look in the officer’s direction. As the officer leaned forward to get a better look at the driver’s eyes, he turned his head away. During this same time, the officer spotted a Styrofoam cup filled with yellow liquid, and an open Hard Seltzer can in the center console. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man was intoxicated, and placed him under arrest for Driving Under the Influence.

    While conducting an inventory of the vehicle prior to it being towed from the scene, officers found a stolen handgun. The man was then charged with Speeding, Open Container, DUI (Less Safe) and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property (Felony).

    Later that same day, an officer responded to the beach near 14th Street in reference to a report of a theft. While speaking with the officer, the victim stated that a man approached his group of friends on the beach and acted as if he knew them. The man then sat and talked with the group a bit, before suddenly jumping up and running away. After he was gone, the victim realized that the man had stolen his cell phone in the process.

    That evening, an officer responded to Tybrisa Street in reference to a man allegedly threatening people. While speaking with our officer, the victim stated that a man walked up to her and handed her a CD. As she accepted it, the man informed her that he “took donations”. When the victim told him that she didn’t have any cash, he pressed the issue, asking if she used “Cash App”. When she replied that she didn’t, the man took the CD back and tol her that he would “shoot her”.

    While checking the area, officers located a man matching the suspect’s description.While speaking with officers, however, the man admitted to offering the victim a CD, but denied ever threatening her. Both parties were subsequently ordered to go their seperate ways and stay away from one another.

  • One of our officers was on patrol in the area of Butler Avenue, when he spotted a vehicle traveling approximately 10 mph BELOW the speed limit. As the officer continued to watch, the vehicle would speed up, slow down and suddenly brake for no apparent reason. The driver of the vehicle then activated the right turn signal, before failing to maintain their lane on the left. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noted that the driver seemed to have trouble finding her license. During the course of their conversation, the woman admitted to drinking two alcoholic drinks that evening, and taking prescription medication. She also informed the officer that she was on a quest to preach about “the dangers of police brutality”, due to an experience she had with law enforcement in another state.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman was under the influence of alcohol and/or prescription medication. After being informed that she was under arrest, the woman grabbed onto the “push bumper” of a patrol vehicle and refused to let go. After being pried away from the bumper, the woman attempted to pull away and refused to walk, causing officers to push and pull her to the rear compartment of a police car. According to the officer, the woman then made statements such as, “I’ll kill you”, and the ever popular, “I’ll kick you in the d—- you fat f——— pig.”

    She was subsequently charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, Obstruction and DUI (Less Safe).

  • One of our officers was sitting in his patrol car near the intersection of Tybrisa and Butler, when he was approached by a man who was upset that a local bar would not serve him. While speaking with the officer, the man stated that the bartender believed his ID was fake, and asked the officer to check it to prove that it was legitimate. While checking the ID, the officer learned that the man had an active warrant through another jurisdiction. He was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to await pickup.

    That eveinng, one of our officers was monitoring traffic on Highway 80 near Miller Avenue, when he spotted a car without working taillights. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the drivr’s eyes were “glossy”, and that there was an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from within the vehicle. When asked, the man admitted to having “One or Two” drinks that evening. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Defective Equipment and DUI.

    Later that night, one of our officers was operating RADAR in the area of Butler Avenue, when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 44 mph in the 30 mph zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer learned that the driver had an active warrant through another jurisdiction. He was then placed under arrest, and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to await pickup.

  • Officers responded to the River’s End Campground in reference to a vehicle that crashed into a campfire ring. As it turned out, the driver was none other than the woman who threatened to kick an officer in the d—- earlier in the week. While speaking with officers, campground staff stated that the woman banned from the property because she had been staying overnight without paying and leaving litter behind. The woman was then served with an official Criminal Trespass notice and instructed to leave the property and not return.

    That evening, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Tybrisa Street when they spotted several people running in different directions. While checking the area, the officer found a large fire in the dunes on the beach. The Fire Department was notified of the situation, and officers utilized fire extinguishers to help fight the fire while waiting for their arrival. It is unknown who or what caused the fire at this time.

  • One of our officers was on patrol int he area of Butler Avenue when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 51 mph in the 30 mph zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver had watery eyes and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from within the vehicle. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI.

    That same day, officers responded back to the River’s End Campground in reference to a trespasser. While speaking with officers, campground staff stated that the woman who had been banned from the property the day before had returned. They also advised that she fled the scene just prior to our officers’ arrival. Evidence of her presence on the property was collected, and the case was forwarded to investigations.
