Officers received an alert about a possible wanted person from our FLOCK license plate reader system. After stopping the suspect vehicle, an officer learned that the driver’s license was suspended. He also confirmed that she had an active warrant through Texas. She was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to await extradition on her non-local warrant.

Officers responded to the area of 14th Street and Butler Avenue in reference to a vehicle having backed into a fence. While speaking with our team, one witness stated that he had been walking down the street when the vehicle almost backed into him. Another witness claimed that they had spotted the driver drinking from a bottle of Tito’s Vodka.
While talking to the driver, an officer noted that her eyes were glossy, and that she slurred her words as she spoke. There was also a smell similar to that of an alcoholic drink coming from her breath. When asked how much she had to drink that day, the driver replied with a statement to the effect of “too much”.
During the course of the investigation, the driver appeared to experience a medical emergency. As a result, she was issued a subpoena for the charges of Improper Backing, Failure to Maintain Lane, and DUI (Less Safe), and then released to the care of emergency medical personnel. While conducting an inventory of the vehicle prior to it being towed from the scene, officers discovered open containers of alcohol, marijuana, and what was believed to be a psychedelic mushroom infused candy bar. All of the drugs were then transported to the Tybee Island Police Department and placed into our evidence room.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were watery and that he slurred his words as he spoke. During the course of their conversation, the man claimed that he was “delivering food”, however there was no food in the vehicle. He also seemed unable to comprehend basic questions.
When asked to step out of his vehicle, the man refused. After attempting to reason with the man for several moments to no avail, the officer opened his door and removed him from the vehicle. The man was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, Obstruction, and DUI (Less Safe).

Officers responded to a local bar in reference to a man harassing other patrons. The caller also claimed that the man had pushed the bartender. While he left that particular bar prior to their arrival, officers would later encounter the man several times as he was denied service at establishment after establishment. Though he was obviously intoxicated, the man claimed to have a sober ride on the way.
A short time later, the man was found passed out in the grass on 17th Street. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Public Drunkenness.

When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman admitted to “one Miller Lite”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane and DUI (Less Safe).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane and traveling 77mph in a 55mph zone.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot, and his movements were lethargic. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man replied, “one wine”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, Open Container, No Insurance, Suspended Registration, and DUI (Less Safe).

Officers responded to the area of Highway 80 near the Lazaretto Creek Bridge in reference to a single vehicle accident.
Once on scene, our team found two small children walking around the car. When asked, they told officers that they had been in the rear seat of the vehicle at the time of the crash. A look inside revealed that there were no child safety restraints.
An officer then spoke with the driver, who was still seated behind the wheel. When asked for her license, the woman indicated that she had one but would not produce it. During this exchange, the officer noticed a liquor bottle and an open can of beer in plain view. Despite this, and a strong smell similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from the car, the woman denied having any alcohol that day. When asked to step out of the car, the woman refused, indicating that the officer made her feel “uncomfortable” and was “intimidating”. That officer then stepped away, allowing others to coax her out of the vehicle.
Once outside, the woman was very unsteady on her feet and continuously struggled to maintain her balance. When asked if she was willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the woman initially agreed, but decided to get back into the car instead. After refusing to step back out, she was removed from the car and placed under arrest on the charges of Failure to Maintain Lane, DUI (.08 grams or more), and Endangering a Child While DUI. The two children were turned over to the custody of a friend who responded to the scene.

Officers responded to an address on Atlantic Avenue in reference to a driver passed out behind the wheel of a car.
After waking the driver, officers noticed that her eyes were watery, and her speech was heavily slurred. When asked, the woman denied having any alcohol that evening. During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, officers found additional evidence to suggest that she had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
After placing the woman under arrest, officers conducted a search of her vehicle. During that time, they located several glass pipes, a metal scraping tool. and a digital scale. They also found a crystalline substance which field tested positive for cocaine. During the booking process, officers conducted an inventory of her backpack. During that time, they located rolling papers, metal scraping tools, a Fentanyl testing kit, and a bag of what is believed to be psychedelic mushrooms. She was then transported to the Chatham County Detention Center, where she was booked into custody on the charges of Possession of a Schedule I Drug, Possession of a Schedule II Drug, Possession of Drug Related Objects, and DUI (Less Safe).

While on patrol, one of our officers spotted two vehicles traveling at a slow rate of speed on Butler Avenue. As the officer watched, the second vehicle began honking its horn and flashing its high beams into the cabin of the car in front of it. The officer then activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop on the second vehicle, and both vehicles pulled into a nearby parking lot.
While talking to the driver of the second vehicle, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot, and he slurred his words as he spoke. During this time, the man told the officer that he had been flashing his high beams and hoking his horn to get the attention of his wife, who had been driving the vehicle in front of him. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man replied, “two beers”, two Coronas and one Bud Light.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Dim Headlights, Improper Use of Horn, and DUI (.08 grams or more).
Seeing her husband being placed under arrest, the man’s wife began to argue with officers about the legality of the traffic stop. During this time, officers noticed that her eyes were bloodshot and “glassy”. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman claimed that she had “one beer” approximately an hour before. During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was likewise placed under arrest and charged with Driving Under the Influence.

Officers responded to a local hotel room in reference to a possible domestic disturbance. While speaking with officers, both people involved insisted that their altercation was only a verbal argument, and that neither party had hurt the other During the course of this conversation, however, a jar of psychedelic mushrooms was spotted in plain view. One person claimed the drugs and was subsequently placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance.
