• One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to maintain its lane. Upon walking up to the vehicle, the officer was able to smell an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from within. The officer also noticed that the driver had bloodshot eyes and slurred his words as he spoke. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, and DUI.

  • Officers responded to the local grocery store in reference to a possible Hit and Run. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that her vehicle had been parked in the lot when it was damaged by unknown means. During the investigation, one of our officers learned that there were cameras pointed at the area where the incident occurred, but employees were not able to access the footage at the time. Store staff advised they would follow-up when the footage became available.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 44mph in a 30mph zone. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer was able to smell an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from within. A closer look revealed an open can of “White Claw” sitting in the center console. While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were red. and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked, the man admitted to having “three beers” that day. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having an obscured license plate. During the course of the stop, the officer learned that the driver did not have a license. He was then placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

    Officers responded to the area of Highway 80 between Campbell and Lewis Avenues, in reference to a motor vehicle crash. Upon their arrival, officers realized that the crash involved a single vehicle striking a wooden power pole. Officers also noted that the pole had suffered extensive damage, making the entire area unsafe for traffic. As a result, Highway 80 between Cambell and Lewis was closed for several hours while Georgia Power worked to replace the pole.

    While speaking with our team, the drive claimed that his vehicle had over 300,000 miles and had suffered a mechanical malfunction which led to the wreck. During the course of the conversation, however, officers noted that the driver’s eyes were bloodshot, and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from his body. A subsequent investigation revealed additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Driving While License Suspended, and DUI (Less Safe).

  • An off-duty Tybee officer spotted a vehicle driving on the wrong side of Butler Avenue, then watched as it almost struck a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk. That officer then notified our on-duty team members, who located the vehicle and performed a traffic stop. While talking with the driver, an officer noticed that her eyes were “glossy”, and that she slurred her words as she spoke. The officer also noticed an open bottle of liquor in the center console. When asked if she was willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the driver refused. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road, Crosswalk Violation, Open Container, Failure to Sign a Citation, and DUI (Less Safe).

    Officers responded to a local motel after a handgun was found lying on top of a vending machine. During the course of the investigation, a man came forward who described the weapon, and explained that he accidentally left it while getting his children snacks out of the machine. After ensuring the man was lawfully allowed to have the firearm, officers returned it to him.
