On Sunday, May 8th, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Highway 80, when he observed a vehicle failing to maintain it’s lane and speeding. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that a cellphone with GPS directions was resting in the driver’s lap and that there was an “Air Pod” style headphone in one of his ears. While speaking with the driver, the officer also noticed that his eyes had a “glossy” appearance and that he spoke very rapidly. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. After placing the driver under arrest, officers conducted an inventory of his vehicle prior to it being towed. During the course of this inventory, those officers discovered over 200 prescription pills mixed together among several bottles as well as a plastic bag containing a substance believed to be marijuana. The driver was subsequently charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, Hands Free Violation, DUI - Less Safe (Drugs), Possession of a Controlled Substance and Controlled Substances Not in the Original Container. While at the jail, the driver began to show symptoms of experiencing a medical emergency. He was then released into the custody of EMS personnel for transport to a local hospital. The pills were placed into evidence and will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Lab for positive identification.

When asked how much he had to drink that night, the driver made a statement to the effect of, “Probably enough to go to jail”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver had been operating the motor vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Headlights Not in Use and DUI.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. After placing the driver under arrest, officers conducted an inventory of the vehicle prior to it being towed. During the course of this inventory, the officers found more than 10 open containers of alcohol, a plastic bag believed to contain hallucinogenic mushrooms, and another plastic bag containing a white powder that tested positive for Methamphetamine.
