• Officers responded to a local condominium complex in reference to a man passed out in front of the building. After several failed attempts to wake the man, officers were forced to use painful stimuli in order to get a response. Once awake, the man was extremely sluggish and needed assistance in getting to his feet. When asked if he knew where he was, the man believed himself to be in Florida, before changing his response after spotting a sign that read “Tybee Island”.

After several unsuccessful attempts to determine where the man was staying, officers placed him under arrest for Public Drunkenness. During the booking process, officers discovered a bag of white powder among the man’s belongings. After being advised of his Miranda Rights, the man claimed that the powder was Ketamine. The substance was taken into evidence and will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Lab for testing and positive identification.

  • One of our officers was on patrol in the area of Highway 80 when he spotted a vehicle failing to maintain its lane. After conducting a traffic stop, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes had a “glassy” appearance. As the officer proceeded to explain the reason for the stop, the man replied that it “made sense” and that he had “broken the Lord’s trust”, “dooming his soul eternally”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the motor vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane and DUI ( Less Safe).

  • Officers were dispatched to the area of Highway 80 after receiving a “Be on the Lookout” for a possible drunk driver drifting into oncoming traffic. While checking the area, one officer spotted the suspect vehicle and watched as it immediately crossed over the yellow line, almost striking the median in the process. As the officer continued to observe, the vehicle failed to maintain it’s lane several more times, prompting him to initiate a traffic stop. As he did so, the vehicle crossed over the double yellow line, and both lanes of oncoming traffic, before coming to a stop on the wrong side of the road. While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed that her speech was slurred and that there was an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from within the vehicle. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the driver initially refused to exit the vehicle when instructed, and would later refuse to participate in field sobriety testing. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Failure to Exercise Due Care, Expired Registration, No Insurance, Tag Light Required, Tags:30 Days to Register Vehicle, New Resident: 30 Days to Obtain License, Driving While License Suspended, Reckless Driving, DUI (Less Safe) and Refusal to Sign a Citation.

  • Officers responded to a local condominium complex in reference to a man who had broken into the pool area and was actively throwing furniture. While officers were still en route, our dispatch center received multiple 911 calls about a man in a purple shirt and jeans attempting to fight people on the sidewalk.

As they arrived on scene, officers spotted a man matching the suspect’s description and immediately noticed that he was acting in an erratic manner, as if under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. As officers attempted to speak with the suspect, one of his friends walked up, at which time the suspect sprinted away from the scene, screaming. Officers then followed the suspect to a nearby condo building, where he turned and took an aggressive stance towards officers as if preparing to fight, before running away once more.

He then ran upstairs and forced his way into a condo occupied by several women, at which point our officers were able to corner him. As they moved to place the suspect under arrest, he continued to struggle and attempt to pull away until he was finally secured in handcuffs. While being escorted from the building, the suspect continuously screamed profanities and attempted to spit on our team. Once in the rear seat of a patrol car, the suspect kicked the windows multiple times in an attempt to damage the vehicle and/or escape. He was subsequently charged with Disorderly Conduct, Obstruction, Criminal Trespass and Interference with Government Property.

Later that day, officers responded to the area of Fisherman’s Walk in reference to a Hit-and-Run involving a pedestrian. While speaking with our team, a woman stated that she had been walking through the parking lot when a pickup truck backed into her. According to the woman, she began to exchange words with the driver, who admitted to hitting her, but claimed that it was her fault for “being in the way”. The truck then left the scene.

When asked, the woman declined medical treatment but indicated a desire to pursue charges if and when the suspect vehicle is located.

That evening, officers responded to a local bar in reference to reports of a man attacking multiple people on the sidewalk. As officers arrived on scene, several witnesses pointed to a man sitting in the back seat of a nearby vehicle, indicating that he was the one our team was looking for. As officers approached the car, the man suddenly exited and began walking towards them in an aggressive manner while foaming at the mouth. Before the officers could react, the man’s sister stepped in, wrapping her arms around him and tackling him to the ground. The man was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct.

  • While on patrol, one of our officers was flagged down by a man who reported that he had been robbed on the pier. The man also told the officer that the suspects responsible had just driven away in a silver car. While checking the area, the officer spotted a vehicle matching that description driving the wrong way on Tybrisa Street. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver had several abrasions on his body and blood on his clothing. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers had all three occupants exit the vehicle, and they were positively identified by the victim as being involved in the incident.

While speaking with the parties involved, officers were informed that the occupants of the vehicle had been on the pier when they became involved in a physical altercation with the victim and his friends. During the course of the altercation, one of the vehicle’s passengers, and a fourth suspect, who was not on scene, allegedly “beat up” the victim and stole his backpack. That passenger was then placed under arrest for Robbery. The fourth suspect and the backpack have not been located at this time.
