• Officers responded to an address on 7th Avenue in reference to a warrant service. Once on scene, our team made contact with the wanted man and placed him under arrest. He was then transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to await extradition on his out-of-state warrant.

  • Officers responded to a local liquor store in reference to a report of shoplifting. While speaking with our team, the clerk stated that she watched a man stick a 750ml bottle of Jose Cuervo Tequila down his pants. He then purchased two smaller bottles of alcohol and left the store.

After taking the information for a report, our officers walked around the corner and spotted the suspect speaking with a woman in the middle of the road. As the officers approached, the suspect turned and began to walk away, throwing an unopened 750ml bottle of Jose Cuervo on the ground in the process. Having tosses the evidence, he decided to stop walking and allowed himself to be placed under arrest.

After recovering the lifted liquor, officers attempted to speak with the suspect’s female companion. During the course of their conversation, the woman was belligerent and screamed at officers repeatedly, at one point insisting that they “arrest her”. So they did.

The male suspect was charged with Theft by Shoplifting, while his female companion received Public Drunkenness and Obstruction.

  • In last week’s recap, we told you about an incident in which someone illegally entered a woman’s car and stole her purse. You’ll remember that her credit card was later used at a Dollar General in Waynesboro, Georgia.

During the course of a follow-up investigation, detectives were able to obtain security footage from that Dollar General. While reviewing the tape, our team realized that the three suspects were the SAME three suspects that had been arrested for stealing bicycles and surfboards on November 9th. Warrants were obtained for their arrests. and two of the three turned themselves in to police custody on November 21st.

Both were subsequently charged with Entering an Auto, Theft by Taking, and Financial Transaction Card Theft.

Officers received an alert from our FLOCK license plate readers that suggested a missing person from Florida was on the island.

After locating his vehicle at a local gas station, officers spoke with the missing man and notified his family that he had been located. During the course of their conversation, officers did not see any indications that the man was in immediate danger, and he expressed a desire to return home to Florida. As a result, he was allowed to leave the scene.

    ___

Later that day, one of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 55mph in a 35mph zone. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were watery, and that there were several clear plastic cups within plain view. When asked, the woman admitted to having “one Blood Mary” a couple of hours before.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI (Less Safe).

  • Officers responded to the area of Butler and 7th Street in reference to a crosswalk pole being struck by a car. Once in the area, they found the electronic signal pole snapped in half and lying in the roadway. They also found bits and pieces of the suspect vehicle, allowing them to identify the brand. Shortly thereafter, a heavily damaged car battery was discovered a couple of blocks away, but mysteriously enough, no car.
