While speaking with officers, the suspect refused to leave the property. He then threw a lit cigarette, which struck an officer in the chest. As he was subsequently being placed under arrest, the man attempted to resist by pulling one of his arms away. Once in handcuffs, he was charged with both Disorderly Conduct and Obstruction before being transported to the Chatham County Detention Center.

On Monday, November 29th, one of our officers was monitoring traffic on Butler Avenue when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 48 mph in a 30 mph speed zone. After stopping the car, the officer learned that it did not have insurance and that the driver’s license was suspended. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

On Wednesday, November 30th, officers responded to the beach near 2nd Street in reference to a U-Haul truck being stuck in the sand. While speaking with officers, the driver of the truck stated that she had driven out there because she wanted to see the beach and had gotten the vehicle stuck while attempting to turn around and leave. The driver was cited accordingly, and the truck was towed from the scene.

Later that same day, officers responded to a local restaurant in reference to a report of theft of services. While speaking with our officers, employees of the restaurant stated that a woman ran up a $104 tab and walked out without paying. During the course of the conversation, officers noted that the description of the suspect matched that of the woman who had gotten the U-Haul stuck on the beach.
