On Monday, 11/08/2021, officers responded to a local condominium in reference to a report of damaged fire sprinklers. Upon their arrival, officers were told that the system had been damaged by a air conditioning repair company that had been working in one of the units. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that as a result of that damage to the system, water had entered and/or flooded several units and the parking garage. A report was filed and no further action was taken by TIPD at this time.

On Wednesday, 11/10/2021, one of our officers was monitoring traffic along Highway 80 when he saw a pickup truck that appeared to be accelerating rapidly. As the officer watched, the driver of the truck failed to maintain his lane when the right tires crossed completely over the solid white “fog line” on the shoulder of the road. After initiating a traffic stop on the pickup, the officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle and join him at the rear. As the driver complied, the officer noted that he had slurred speech, “glazed” eyes and an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from his person. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the pickup while under the influence of alcohol. After being placed in handcuffs, the driver suddenly attempted to run away back in the direction of the truck, prompting the officer to pull him back by his shirt. He was then transported to the Tybee Island Police Department, where he was booked into custody on the charges of Failure to Maintain Lane and Driving Under the Influence.
