On Monday, 10/11/2021, one of our officers was on foot patrol in the area of Tybrisa, when he observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the one way street. The officer then returned to his patrol car and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. While speaking with the driver, the officer noted that he cold smell both, an odor similar to that of an alcoholic beverage and that of marijuana emitting from within the car. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence that the man had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. During a search incident to arrest, the officer also discovered a substance that appeared to be marijuana in the man’s pocket. He was subsequently charged with Driving the Wrong Way on a One Way Street, Driving Under the Influence and Possession of Marijuana (less than an ounce).
On Thursday, 10/14/2021, officers responded to a report of a man passed out in a driveway in which he did not belong. After waking the man, officers noted that there was a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath. During the course of the subsequent conversation, the officers asked several questions in an effort to determine who the man was and where he was staying, in hopes of getting him home safely. In response, the man provided incomplete or nonsensical answers. After being medically cleared by EMS personnel, the man was placed under arrest for Public Drunkenness and transported to the Tybee Island Police Department in order to sober up.
On Friday, 10/15/2021, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Highway 80 when he observed a vehicle traveling down the road with a cracked windshield. After stopping the vehicle, the officer learned that the driver did not have a license due to failing the state driving test. She was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with a Windshield Violation and Driving Without a License.
