On Monday, October 17th, one of our officers was monitoring traffic along Highway 80 when he checked a vehicle’s speed at 50 mph in the 35 mph speed zone. After stopping the vehicle, the officer learned that the driver’s license was suspended for Failure to Appear. At that time, the driver was placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and Driving While License Suspended.

On Wednesday, October 19th, officers responded to a burglary alarm at one of Fort Screven’s former batteries. While checking the perimeter of the building, the officers found that a plywood door had been partially pulled open. At that time, officers entered the building but did not locate anyone else inside. A report was filed, the property owner was notified, and no further action was taken at this time.

On Thursday, October 20th, officers responded to a residence on Solomon Avenue in reference to a suspicious person having been spotted in the back yard. According to the caller, no one was renting the house at the time. While checking the perimeter of the building, officers found an unlocked door. At that time, our team entered the residence but did not locate anyone else inside. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during this time.

That same day, officers responded to the area of the South Annex in reference to someone having lost a purse. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that she accidentally left her purse lying on a bench near the annex earlier that evening, and when she returned to retrieve it, the purse was gone. When asked, the victim stated that the purse contained her driver’s license, credit cards, and two bracelets.
