On Monday, October 3, officers responded to the lobby of the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to a possible theft. While speaking with our team, the complainant stated that he left two kayaks chained to a beach crossover between Thursday and Friday of the previous week. When he returned to collect the craft, they were gone. One of the missing kayaks was described as a dark green “SunMoon” single seater, while the other was yellow and had two seats. Of course, with Hurricane Ian having passed by the island during that time frame, it’s possible that they were washed away and were discovered by someone with the best of intentions. If you or someone you know just so happened to come into possession of two new kayaks matching these descriptions, you can give us a call at (912)786-5600 to provide information.

On Wednesday, October 5, officers responded to a local bar in reference to a disorderly woman who was refusing to leave the property. While speaking with our team, an employee pointed out a nearby customer who had become argumentative with her while accusing the employee of stealing her purse. Officers then spoke with the customer, who stated that she had been inside of the business earlier that evening and left her purse on the bar when she left to walk her husband back to their motel room. Upon her return, the purse was gone. During the course of this conversation, officers noticed that the woman was slurring her words and that there was a smell similar to that of an alcoholic drink coming from her breath. The woman then began to loudly demand that officers search the bar for her purse. In the interest of being both impartial and thorough, officers checked the area where the woman had been sitting, as well behind the bar and in common areas, such as the ladies’ room for the purse. After coming up empty, they informed the woman that she was no longer welcome in the bar and that she should go back to her motel room in order to check for her purse. In response, the woman began to yell in one officer’s face and directed a string of profanities at other officers on scene. After it became clear the woman was not going to leave under her own power, she was placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct.

On Saturday, October 8, officers responded to the lobby of the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to a possible theft. While speaking with our team, the complainants stated that they recently rented a condominium in a local complex. After taking a dip in the pool, the couple returned to their room to find that their wallets were gone. They noticed that there were no indications that someone had broken into the condo, and the only way to access the front door was with a code. While checking their bank statements, the pair noticed that their credit cards were being used at businesses inside of nearby Savannah, GA. A report was filed, and the victims began the task of canceling all of the cards which had been reported stolen.
