• One of our officers stopped a vehicle for Speeding and Failure to Maintain Lane. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot, and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked how much he had to drink, the man reportedly replied, “too much”. When asked if he would participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the man refused. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

    Officers responded to the public restrooms in the 17th Street parking lot in reference to lost property. While speaking with our team, the complainant stated that she left her combination Flashlight/Taser in the bathrooms, and when she returned to retrieve the device, it was gone. The officer checked all of the bathrooms personally, but did not locate the missing item. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • Officers responded to a local golf cart rental company in reference to missing property. While speaking with our team, the caller stated that he had been completing an inventory, when he realized that golf cart T-799 was missing. Officers remained on the lookout for the golf cart while patrolling the island but were unable to locate. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for Failure to Dim Headlights.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that he continuously used a Vape and refused to make eye contact. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic beverage wafting through his open window. When asked, the man admitted to having one “Twisted Tea”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Dim Headlights and DUI.

    Officers responded to an address on 2nd Avenue in reference to a theft report. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that someone had stolen her bicycle while it was parked in her driveway. The basket that had been attached to the bicycle was found a short distance away, but the bike itself was not recovered. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • One of our officers stopped a golf cart for Failure to Maintain Lane. While talking to the driver, officers were able to smell an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from his breath. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the cart while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane and DUI (Less Safe).

  • An officer responded to the lobby of the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to a phone scam. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that she attempted to send a family member money through “CashApp” but was met with an error message. After reaching out to CashApp, she received a call from someone claiming to be from Tech Support. That person convinced the victim to install an app on her phone, which gave a user labeled as “HelpDesk” remote access. During the course of the incident, “HelpDesk” removed almost $3,000 from the victim’s account. A report was filed, and the case was forwarded to investigations.
