On Sunday, October 23rd, officers responded to a local souvenir shop in reference to a report of Theft by Taking. According to store employees, a woman attempted to purchase a kite with a credit card. When the credit card was declined for suspected fraud, the woman reportedly panicked and ran out of the store with the kite. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate her at the time.
On Wednesday, October 26th, officers responded to Highway 80 near the Lazaretto Creek Bridge in reference to a Hit and Run. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that she had been traveling westbound on 80, approaching the bridge, when a Jeep in the left lane attempted to merge without checking to ensure it was safe to do so. The victim honked her horn but noted that the other driver did not seem to react. The Jeep then struck the left side of the victim’s vehicle, forcing her off of the road in the process. The Jeep was last seen crossing the bridge and the Chatham County Police Department was notified to be on the lookout.
On Friday, October 28th, one of our officers was monitoring traffic along 17th Street. During this time, he watched a vehicle fail to stop at the four-way intersection at 17th and Butler. After stopping the vehicle, the officer learned that the driver did not have a license or valid insurance. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, No Driver’s License and No Insurance.
On Saturday, October 29th, officers learned that two photo booths, located at the Sea and Breeze Motel and the Tybee Pier, had been broken into and had the money box stolen. Anyone with pertinent information in reference to these crimes is asked to contact the Tybee Island Police Department at (912)786-5600.

On Sunday, October 23rd, LT Emory Randolph was honored to be invited to the All Saints Episcopal Church for lunch. During the delicious meal, LT Randolph discussed Active Threats and gave the congregation options about how they may respond to them. We’d like to thank the staff and members of All Saints for “rolling out the red carpet” and welcoming LT Randolph with open arms!
On Thursday, October 27th, an amazing group of homeschooled children and their parents dropped by for a tour of TIPD. According to the coordinator, some of the families traveled almost 2 hours just to meet us! While the kids learned about every aspect of our agency, we’ll give you one guess about who stole the show…
On Friday, October 28th, our team participated in the Tybee Island YMCA’s annual “Trunk or Treat” event. We had a great time meeting all of you and always appreciate being treated like members of the family!
