• Officers responded to a local motel in reference to damage to property. While speaking with our team, motel staff stated they had footage of a man stabbing a tire on a vehicle in their parking lot. The employees further stated, that when the owner of the vehicle discovered the flat the following day, they mistakenly believed it was the result of natural causes. Given this new information, officers attempted to contact the victim but were unsuccessful. A report was filed, and no further action was taken at that time.

    One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane. While talking to the driver, the office noticed that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic beverage wafting through his open window. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. While talking to the driver, the officer was able to smell the odor of marijuana emitting from within the car. During the course of their conversation, the man stated that he had smoked “about an hour before”, and admitted to feeling “buzzed”. When asked if he would pariticpate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, however, the man refused. He was then placed under arrest and charged with DUI (Drugs - Less Safe).

  • Officers responded to the area of Eagles Nest Drive in reference to a disorderly person.

    While speaking with our team, the caller stated that he had been working on the roof of a house when he was approached by a man asking for a cigarette. When he refused, the stranger became angry, and reportedly threatened to “Whoop his ass” before throwing a large object at him. According to the caller, the object struck the roof just below him, doing visible damage to the wood.

    While subsequently speaking with the suspect, officers were able to smell an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from his body. During the course of the conversation, the suspect admitted to throwing the object and confirmed that it struck the house. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct.

    Officers responded to the beach near Chatham Avenue, after a man called 911 to report being threatened with a firearm.

    While speaking with our team, the victim stated that he had been riding his bicycle and listening to his stereo on the beach, when a man stepped in front of him and blocked his path. The victim further stated that the man demanded to know who he was, to which the victim replied that he “wasn’t looking for trouble”. The man then reportedly attempted to turn off the stereo, before being stopped by the victim. At that time, the man drew a handgun from his waistband, and ordered the victim to “get on his bike and leave”. The victim fled the area and called 911. While checking the beach, officers were unable to locate anyone matching the description of the suspect, and a bystander denied having seen anybody with a gun. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he refused to turn and look at the officer as they spoke. When asked, the man admitted to having “two beers” earlier in the evening. When given the opportunity to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the man refused. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

  • A man came to the Tybee Island Police Department to report that a truck had struck a nearby fence before fleeing the scene. While checking the area, officers stopped a vehicle matching the suspect’s description for having a tinted windshield. Upon approaching the truck, the officers noticed fresh damage consistent with that on the fence. While talking to the driver, the officers noticed that his eyes were bloodshot, and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also a smell similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked, the man admitted to having “a few drinks” at a local bar before attempting to drive home.

    During the course of the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with a Windshield Violation and DUI (Less Safe).

    Officers responded to an address on Lovell Avenue in reference to Entering an Auto. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that someone had stolen a Shop-Vac and a toolbox from the bed of his truck. A report was filed, and the victim was provided with follow-up information.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having a defective taillight. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot, and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from his open window. When asked if he was willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the man refused. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Taillight Violation, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe). During a subsequent inventory of the vehicle, officers located a substance believed to be psychedelic mushrooms. As a result, the man received an additional charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and the suspected mushrooms will be sent to the GBI for further testing.
