• Officers responded to an address on Chatham Avenue in reference to a possible Burglary in progress. While speaking with dispatch, the caller reported that the suspect was attempting to break into the residence through the front door. After checking the front of the house, our team located a man matching the suspect's sitting at a picnic table in the back yard.

    When asked for his name, the man simply stared blankly, offering no response. Further attempts to communicate with the man were met with additional blank stares. While looking for identification, officers located a substance believed to be Methamphetamine in his wallet. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers were able to obtain video footage of the man knocking on the front door, before moving to the rear of the residence and walking aimlessly around the backyard. He then took a seat at the picnic table. where he was found by officers. He was then placed under arrest on the charges of Loitering or Prowling, Criminal Trespass, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, and booked into custody at the Chatham County Detention Center.

  • Officers responded to an address on Naylor Avenue in reference to damage to property. While speaking with our team, the caller stated that she walked over to check on a neighbor's house when she found a glass door shattered. During the course of the investigation, another neighbor came forward with video footage of the incident. While reviewing the video, officers watched a man throw a rock through the door, shattering it in the process. The officers immediately recognized the man as someone they've had previous dealings with. A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

    Officers responded to a local business in reference to a man harassing, hugging, and taking photos of female employees. After locating the man nearby, our team spoke with the store employees, who asked that he be banned from the property. The man was then served with a Criminal Trespass notice, and informed that he would be subject to arrest if he returned. A report was filed, and no further action was taken at that time.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for driving at night without taillights. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were watery and that there was an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through her open window. When asked if she had any alcohol that evening, the woman admitted to "a drink or two". During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with a Taillight Violation and DUI.

  • Officers responded to an address on 14th Street in reference to a possible theft. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that their EZ-GO golf cart had been stolen from their front yard. Shortly thereafter, a neighbor called to report finding the cart several blocks away. Officers then accompanied the victim to the cart's location, where it was found in good condition. A report was filed, and the victim was provided with a case number for follow-up purposes.

    Officers responded to the area of 15th and Butler in reference to a report of an accident involving a motorcycle. While speaking with our team, the motorcyclist reported being struck by a dark in color vehicle, which then fled the scene. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate a vehicle matching the suspect description. The motorcyclist was treated by Emergency Medical personnel and released on scene. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

    Officers responded to an address on Atlantic Avenue in reference to a Hit and Run. While they were still on scene, another officer located the suspect vehicle and stopped it for speeding. While talking to the driver, officers noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that there was a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emitting from his body. During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that he had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Hit and Run, Speeding, and DUI (Less Safe).

    While at the Tybee Island Police Department, the man kicked the door of a holding cell repeatedly, damaging it in the process. He also used his clothing to intentionally clog the toilet and flood the cell. As a result, he earned an additional charge of Interference with Government Property and was transferred to the Chatham County Detention Center.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot, his face was flushed, and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked if he had any alcohol that day, the man was adamant that he had not, and further claimed that the officer "was just saying that". When asked if he would be willing to submit to Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the man refused. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI (Less Safe). During an inventory of the man's vehicle, the officer found a half-empty bottle of Vodka, earning the man an additional charge of Open Container.
