Description of Duties:

 This position acts as the link between the general public, medical resources, police officers in the field, the departmental administration, and other public service organizations.  (Answers 911 calls from the public & passes them on to police, fire, & rescue services) In addition, the employee in this position acts as a Terminal Agency Operator, a specialized operator of the Criminal Justice Information System.  Works under the supervision of the communications coordinator, and is reviewed on the basis of work performed. Applicant must have excellent skills in dealing with people in crisis, communicating clearly, following established procedure, keyboarding, hearing, and an excellent memory. 

Job Requirements:
The successful candidate must: 

  • Pass a background check, pre-employment drug screen and psychological evaluation

  • High School Diploma or equivalence

  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License

  • Available to work 12 hour shifts including weekends and holidays

  • Excellent skills in dealing with people in crisis, communicating clearly, following established procedure, keyboarding, hearing, and an excellent memory

  • Certified as a dispatcher or be certified within six months of appointment
