On Sunday, September 11, officers responded to the Tybee Island Marina after two men got into a physical altercation with one another while conducting maintenance on a boat. One man claimed that the other struck him with a metal wrench, however both declined to press charges or pursue the matter any further. After conducting their investigation, our officers separated the parties involved by providing one with a courtesy ride to another location. No further action was taken at the time.

Later that same day, officers responded to Savannah Beach Health and Rehab after a woman in a bikini showed up there demanding to be let inside. According to the staff, they found the woman banging on the front door of the facility. At that time, one of the employees opened the door slightly to speak to the bikini-clad woman and find out how she could help. During the course of their conversation, the woman told the employee that she was at the facility for a wedding and demanded to be let in. After the employee explained that there was no wedding on the property, the bikini-clad woman attempted to shove her way in, making physical contact with the employee in the process. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the woman was placed under arrest and charged with Loitering and Prowling as well as Simple Battery.

On Monday, September 12th, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Butler Avenue when he spotted a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on Inlet Avenue, a one way street. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes appeared bloodshot and that there was strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink coming from his breath when he spoke. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way Street and DUI.

On Thursday, September 15th, our team responded to a residence on 10th Street in reference to a report of suspicious activity. While speaking with our officers, the complainant stated that as he was returning home the previous evening, he spotted a car parked nearby his house, flashing it’s headlights. A few moments later, that car, and a second vehicle both sped away from his home and out of the neighborhood. The complainant checked his house but found that all of the doors and windows were locked and it did not appear that anyone had made entry. As always, residents and guests are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings at all times and report suspicious activity to the police as soon as possible so that it can be properly investigated. Thank you.
