On Tuesday, September 20th, officers responded to the area of Chatham Avenue and 19th Street after a car drove over traffic cones and crashed into the wooden beach crossover. While speaking with the driver, an officer noticed that her speech was slurred and that she continued to repeat that she “just wanted to go home”. When asked where she lived, the driver reportedly replied, “I’m a bit smashed. I don’t know”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with DUI.

On Wednesday, September 21st, officers responded to a local motel after a man reported that his Apple AirPods had been stolen from inside of his room. While using an app on his phone to track the AirPods, the man noted that they were now showing as being at an address in Savannah. While speaking with our team, the man stated that he just wanted his headphones returned, and if not, he would seek reimbursement through the motel.

At 5:24AM on Thursday, September 22nd, officers with the Tybee Island Police Department responded to the IGA, located at 1111 Butler Avenue, in reference to a possible burglary. Upon their arrival, our team found that someone had shattered the glass door of the grocery store and had stolen approximately $1,600 from the register tills. While speaking with the officers, a witness reported spotting a man hanging around the front of the store that same morning. With a description in hand, our officers began to conduct a canvass of the area. During that time, they were able to locate and identify a man matching said description. A later review of the security cameras inside the store would confirm that he was indeed the man they were looking for. After placing the suspect under arrest, officers located $1,589 in his backpack. The man was subsequently charged with Burglary and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center.

On Friday, September 23rd, officers were dispatched to an address on 12th Street in reference to a report of a group of people using drugs on the property. Upon their arrival, officers did not see, hear or smell anything to suggest that drug use was actually taking place. As such, they cleared the call without taking any further action. Shortly thereafter, officers received a call from the person in charge of the property in question. While speaking with our team, the man stated the one of the neighbors had been harassing his renters for several months, and had been known to walk onto the property uninvited in order to confront his guests. At that time, officers informed the man about the process to have the neighbor banned from the property should he feel it to be necessary. A report was filed and no further action was taken during this time.

On Saturday, September 24th, officers responded to a local bar in reference to a disorderly man who was refusing to leave.
